The Suite Life on Silversea Cruises

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Silversea Cruises is always looking for new ways to indulge guests with the luxury of choice…they have now introduced a series of trendsetting innovations designed to make your suite a sanctuary of true bliss … and all are complimentary.

 • Scent-sational – Silversea butlers will invite their guests to choose from a trio of aromatherapy room scents by renowned Italian perfumer Laura Tonatto.
• Luxurious Bubbles – Guests can select from exquisite bath amenities by Bvlgari or Ferragamo. A fragrance-free formula is available for sensitive skin types.
• Suite Dreams – Nine pillow types are available, including soft down, memory foam, buckwheat, hypoallergenic and a full body pillow. Pillow covers come in 300-thread-count cotton or 100% silk charmeuse with scent sachets in chamomile or lavender.
• Chocoholics, rejoice! Silversea guests will be delighted to find Pierre Marcolini chocolates – the finest in Belgian confections – as the finishing touch to evening turndown service. Available now on Silver Spirit, rolled out fleetwide starting with select summer 2010 European itineraries.

Also included in the cruise fare are complimentary beverages… an extensive selection of fine wines, champagne, spirits, bottled water and soft drinks are all included.  Each cabin also includes a chilled bottle of champagne and a cabinet stocked with your preferred assortment of complimentary beverages.  Gratuities are included, dining is open seating or you will be served in your cabin 24 hours per day.

What does all of this cost?  Well not as much as you’d think if your travel dates are flexible.  To travel with Silversea Cruises in 2010 is certainly more affordable than we’ve seen in years.  For example, the Silver Wind has a 7 day cruise on July 25th starting in Barcelona and ending in Lisbon.  You can sail for 60% off the brochure rates.  A Vista Suite is priced from just $3,758 pp.  June 17th on board the Silver Cloud is priced from $3,638 pp sailing round trip from Stockholm or a 7 night cruise round trip from Copenhagen on July 16th at the same rate. There are also good buys on select dates for Alaska, Northern Europe and Caribbean sailings.

Call for the best available fare, and in many cases we also have group space and will be able to include value added amenities such as a complimentary cocktail party, transportation to and from your home to the airport or shore excursions.

Luxury Cruise on a Premium Budget

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

silverseas_collage1Last month I wrote an article entitled Luxury Cruises vs. Premium Cruise Lines. The article focused on the price difference between a Luxury Cruise and a Premium Cruise. At the time of the article, SilverSea’s rates were $6,716.00 per person, which was $4,117.00 more than the new Celebrity Solstice.

What a difference a day makes! Right now you can experience a Luxury Cruise vacation at a Premium price. That’s right! Now, you can cruise the Mediterranean with SilverSea for $3,198.00 on select dates in their least expensive (Ocean View Vista Suite) cabin!!! But it doesn’t stop there! Oceania has a 12 night Aegean Adventure cruise for $5,198.00 per person in a Category A2 (Concierge) verandah cabin and that includes roundtrip air from a major US airport and all Taxes! This is not a From or Base figure folks, this is a Total Figure! If you have a Premium Budget and you can travel in Luxury Style with all those Jet Setters, why wouldn’t you? In the end, it’s all about value.

SilverSea is also offering a $500.00 “Per Guest” shipboard credit Plus FREE Air on select dates! Prices have not been this low in over 6 years, so now is the time to book…imagine playing Baccarat across from James Bond, oops, thats my fantasy.

Luxury Cruises vs. Premium Cruise Lines

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Being a premium cruise traveler and having just experienced Celebrity’s Solstice, what is all the hype about stepping up to a luxury cruise, and are the finer things worth their asking price?

Silversea is known for their All-Inclusive program, which is comprised of Gourmet Meals, Fine Wines (25 Red / 25 White), Champagne, Spirits, and Bulgari Toiletries. However, when comparing caviar with lobster, I found there to be a major difference, yet insufficient data to substantiate the answer to my question: are the finer things really worth their asking price? I did some research and I compared the proverbial apples to oranges in order to give this question proper consideration. In my research, I compared the Silversea Wind’s 240 square foot ocean view Vista Suite with the new Celebrity Solstice’s 245 square foot Aqua Class Balcony Cabin.

Here are my findings:

Silversea Wind:                                   Celebrity Solstice
                         10-Night Mediterranean
June 16, 2009                                        June 5, 2009
$6,716.00 pp                                         $2,599.00 pp

                         What You Get…
314 Passengers                               2,850 Passengers
Decks 4 & 5                                      Penthouse Deck
Sitting Area                                       Balcony
Unlimited Pommery Champagne       32” Flat Screen TV
Mini Bar Stocked Daily                       Pillow menu
Acqua Di Parma Bath Amenities        Shower stall & Bath Basen
Plush Robe & Choice of Pillow           Spa concierge
Personalized Stationary                    Exclusive use of Persian Garden
Marble Bath / Full Bath                      Specialty Restaurant BLU
Gratuities Included
                       Difference: $4,117.00 Per Person

Alright! We have a pretty BIG difference and it’s being substantiated by what seems to be what? Food? Well, not just food, Gourmet 5-Star Cuisine. Also, all your drinks, be it wine, spirits, champagne, and soda are included. A Full bath (Tub & Shower), premium amenities, pre-paid gratuities, and toiletries are included as well. Last but  not least, more personalized service due to the fact that there are significantly less passengers onboard. But, how important is this to the consumer during the current economy? Celebrity’s Solstice is an amazing vessel offering what they’re best known for, which is gourmet cuisine. Let’s be honest here, $4,100.00 worth of drinks is very unlikely. Also, what if the traveler is not a drinker and prefers water, tea, or soda? Will the traveler receive a concession for the unused spirits, wine, mini-bar, and champagne? Unlikely. There’s no doubt that there are several factors to consider when purchasing a luxury cruise, but if you are being a bit more conservative with your money these days, premium cruise lines offering a great alternative without compromising in service or cuisine. The question is, are you willing to pay for luxury and if so, why?
