Princess Cruise Line is having the first ever “virtual christening” of a cruise ship. Princess is celebrating the new name of its ship Ocean Princess (formerly Tahitian Princess,) by extending an opporunity to anyone wishing to become an honorary godparent.

The cruise line is using this opporunity to raise funds for the New England Aquarium.  Each new godparent will trigger a $1 donation from Princess to the New England Aquarium, a global leader in ocean exploration and marine conservation, up to $25,000.

Princess Cruises Changes Ports of Call due to Swine Flu Concerns

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Posted : Tues, 28 Apr 2009 10:30 am PDT
Author : Princess Cruise Line
Category : Press Release | Travel Advisory

The health and well being of our passengers and crew is our foremost priority, and therefore we are monitoring the swine flu situation closely.

Our ships and medical staff are already well equipped to prevent and contain the spread of contagious diseases, including swine flu. Even though the risk of contracting this illness is very low, we will be taking extra precautions, and will be guided by advice from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Six Princess ships are currently scheduled for calls in Mexican ports through next month. In light of yesterday’s CDC’s travel health warning for Mexico, we have cancelled the two calls scheduled for Mexican ports today — Puerto Vallarta (Sapphire Princess) and Cabo San Lucas (Coral Princess). Further, we have revised the itinerary for Sapphire Princess, replacing the Mexican ports with San Diego and Catalina. We hope that our passengers will understand that these changes were beyond our control and that we have provided them with an attractive, alternative itinerary.

We are in the process of reviewing the other close-in sailings that include Mexican ports and making itinerary changes, and these details will be communicated by tomorrow.

In the meantime, some of the actions we are taking onboard all of our ships include:

· We are enhancing our screening practices for passengers and crew embarking our ships.

· We are adhering to CDC guidelines for reporting and treatment of persons with suspect swine flu.

· We will isolate and treat passengers and crew with suspect swine flu. Anti-viral medications that effectively treat the swine flu are currently available onboard all Princess ships.

· We will continue our rigorous cleaning and sanitization of our ships to minimize the spread of any contagious disease. Our ships are routinely cleaned with a disinfectant proven to be highly effective against the flu.

· We are communicating to our passengers and crew that they should take extra care to practice healthy habits such as washing their hands often.

· We are asking passengers and crew to report to the medical center immediately if they exhibit any symptoms of flu.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will do everything possible to protect the health of our passengers and crew.

Princess Cruises – ScholarShip@Sea Program

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Princess cruises ScholarShip at Sea program offers several courses during sea days for passengers to improve their skills or learn new ones. Imagine, for example, learning to use your digital camera to take professional-quality photos of your cruise. Or perhaps creating a hand-painted vase in the first ceramics studio at sea. Choose from up to 40 classes on every voyage including everything from scrapbooking to wine tasting.

Culinary Arts
Get ready for a tantalizing tour of the world of fine food. Put your chef’s hat on and learn the secrets of preparing a spectacular array of mouth-watering gourmet specialties served onboard with our culinary arts courses. They feature entertaining demonstrations from guest chefs as well as our own onboard experts — with recipes to take home. The culinary demonstrations onboard are excellent! They are free of charge and last about an hour. You are taught to make an appetizer, main dish and dessert each in 20 minutes. At the end of the presentation, you can take a galley tour. Foodies Beware, on 7 day cruises, many times they only offer 1 cooking presentation the first sea day. I missed it on my last cruise thinking they would offer it again, so check your cruise programs. Other demonstrations throughout the cruise included Martini “mixology” and an ice carving demonstration.

Wine Tasting
Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn the basics of wine tasting, or a connoisseur interested in expanding your knowledge, our onboard wine tasting seminars should be on your schedule. These fun and fascinating adventures in the exciting world of wine offer a wonderful opportunity to make new friends as you taste superb selections hand-picked by our cellar master. This seminar is $9.50 pp Elite Captain Circle Members receive a coupon for free wine tasting. The last day at sea there is normally also a Maitre D’Hotel Wine Club: Members of this elite club are invited to sample prestigious wines from the top-end of Princess Cruises’ renowned wine cellars served with deluxe canapés to compliment each premium wine. This seminar is offered at $25 pp including unique wine offers. You must book in advance as space is limited. You can ask your wait staff for assistance.

Scrapbooking@Sea
Learn to capture your cruise memories forever in a fabulous scrapbook or memory album. The first such program of its kind at sea, scrapbooking provides a fun social atmosphere where you’ll discover how to create a wonderfully personal keepsake of your Princess vacation. An introductory course is free of charge and teaches you basic tools like page design, journaling and other helpful hints. More in-depth courses are available with a purchase of our special Princess Scrapbooking Kit. These classes offer additional tips and clever ideas to craft your own pages while using our available decorative papers, die-cut machines and more! The introductory class is free, and then fees vary based on materials used, but do not exceed $25 pp

Photography@Sea
Whether you’re an amateur or intermediate photographer, here’s your chance to learn how to achieve professional results. With Photography@Sea, you can develop or enhance your picture-taking skills with fun hands-on courses in everything from basic techniques to new digital technology. Taught by our professional photography staff, courses include Introduction to Photography, Using and Setting Your Digital Camera, Photo Digital and Film Basics, or Creative Photography. Ceramics@Sea
Get creative and have fun with your own hand-painted design on unique pre-made ceramic pieces — fired in the cruise industry’s first onboard kilns! Choose a mug, a plate or a bowl, and add your own creative touch, then we’ll fire it in our kilns. By voyage end, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind souvenir! In addition, exclusively on Island Princess® and Coral Princess,® a wet-clay pottery program includes specialized wheel-throwing classes. Prices range from $15 to $30 including all paints, utensils, unlimited paint time, firing and finishing of each piece.

Computers@Sea
Is there a computer program you’ve always wanted to learn, but never had the time? Our popular series of classes makes it easy to improve your computer skills. Ruby Pricess Inaugural Cruise

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

For years, Princess has been dubbed the “Love Boat,” & the 2 day inaugural cruise for the Ruby Princess’ on November 6th, exemplified just that. The theme was “romantic moments & milestones.”  Hundreds of guests dressed in formal & Ruby Red attire, & the ship’s crew surrounded the stage, while “Romance on the Ruby” contest winners Danielle Vurpillat & Kip Hickman were married. Gavin MacLeod, a/k/a Captain Stubing from the Love Boat, walked the bride down the aisle, while Trista & Ryan of “The Bachelorette” were the wedding attendants. The ceremony was short & sweet, with Princess offering up pink champagne & Ruby red martinis to toast the bride & groom. As the sun began to set, the Ruby Princess was christened by Trista & Ryan, who were also celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary. Although several areas were roped off for the media, we were able to get some nice photos of the event. Ruby Princess Inaugural video

Ruby Princess: Inaugural Cruise

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

The Ruby Princess just arrived into Ft. Lauderdale & will set sail for a 2 night preview cruise for hundreds of VIP guests on November 6th.  Although I don’t consider myself a VIP, I am happy to report that we will be on this 2-night cruise & can give you a first hand account of the event.

A couple will be married before the ship sails, with Love Boat captain (actor Gavin MacLeod) giving away the bride, & Trista & Ryan Sutter from the Bachelorette as wedding attendants.  During the 2 night sailing, several romance-themed activities are scheduled including a renewal of vows ceremony for all couple on Nov. 7th.  Ruby begins her 7 day cruises to the Western Caribbean on Nov. 8th.
