Visiting Heidelberg & Frankfurt Germany

With only an hour drive between towns, both Heidelberg and Frankfurt lie near the center of Germany and the center of Europe as a whole. The cities boast cozy pubs and busy city streets, wrapped up in sometimes chilly weather. Travelers hoping to get a dose of hospitality and history could consider these places for their next European vacation. We have several Germany tours.  Some vacation visit just Germany, others including surrounding countries.  There are also specialty tours to visit the German Christmas Markets in later November and early December.

Inside the center of Frankfurt is an usual museum. The Money Museum of the German Federal Bank has exhibits including over 350,000 currency items and an explanation of the changing effect of converting to the euro, according to World Travel Guide.

In favorable weather, vacationers may go to see the Palmengarten, or Palm Garden, which is home to various tropical plants and fowl. Many species live inside intricate glasshouses, and the complex hosts summer concerts for the public.

Heidelberg University had little tolerance for students who played pranks on locals or had a trifle too much to drink. Until 1914, the Studentenkarzer, or student jail, housed unruly scholars until their wayward ways were reconciled, reports Frommer’s. In his travels, Mark Twain was amused by the students’ antics and frequented the building often. Nowadays graffiti and portraits still litter the walls.
