If you’re the parent or grandparent of a little girl who loves all things Barbie, then the Royal Caribbean premium Barbie cruise is the perfect vacation for you. It seems that the Barbie Dream Cruise will be a real experience starting in 2013, with the unveiling of the Premium Barbie Cruise Experience. Estimated to start somewhere between March and January, Royal Caribbean’s Premium Barbie Cruise Experience is mostly aimed at little girls, but Barbie is popular across several generations, so doubtless many adult fans will want to get in on the Barbie-themed fun.
When a passenger who’s purchased a ticket for a Premium Barbie Cruise Experience enters her stateroom for the first time, she’s likely to be overwhelmed – and overjoyed – to see that Barbie’s signature pink is everywhere. She will love the souvenir Barbie pillowcase, tote bag, tiaras, toothbrush, tea set, toiletries, blanket and Mattel-designed sailor outfits for her own Barbie doll. Incidentally, should anybody be in need of a new Barbie, the Barbie Cruise Vacation doll will be on sale in the on board gift shops. The Cruise Vacation doll is not Royal Caribbean branded; it was created by Mattel prior to the partnership with Royal Caribbean.
There are several Barbie-related activities that the girls on the trip will have a chance to partake in. They may begin with a fashion design workshop that will allow them to design their own outfits for Barbie. They will then be able to show off their creations at the Barbie Fashion show, complete with pink-carpet catwalk. They can take part in a dance class to learn the newest dance moves from the popular Barbie movie, Barbie in Mermaid Tale 2. Finally, there is the invitation only, “Tiaras and Teacups” party. Attendees will dine on pink pastries and drink pink lemonade, presumably while wearing pink tiaras. The pink and princess-y themes are sure to delight any young Barbie enthusiast. The cost for the package is $349. For those that do not purchase it, there will be some complimentary Barbie activities, such as a Barbie Movie Night and Barbie Story time in the youth club, as well as Barbie movies available in the cabin.
Royal Caribbean has set up a website to allow people to enter to win a Barbie cruise. The Barbie Cruise Vacation Sweepstakes allows you to enter codes from game pieces (found on select Walmart purchases) for a chance to win a Barbie Cruise, along with other prizes. Clearly, this cruise program is geared to appeal greatly to young girls. However, we anticipate in the near future that Royal Caribbean will launch a similar program geared towards young boys….perhaps Pirates of the Caribbean or the ever popular Toy Story.
