Fall is a wonderful time to visit Walt Disney World. The temperatures in central Florida are more tolerable than they were in the late spring through late summer, and crowds are typically low, since school is back in session and many people are saving money for winter holiday shopping. Another great thing about visiting WDW in October is that it’s all decked out for Halloween! Here are some not-too-scary ways to enjoy the season of spooks and frights with Mickey and Friends:
- Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party You can dress up and enjoy trick-or-treating with all of the Disney pals on select evenings at Magic Kingdom! This Halloween party is, as the name implies, not too scary for even the little ones in your family. Many of the characters are dressed up in Halloween costumes and candy is given out. There’s a Halloween-themed parade and even a special fireworks and light show. Children can trick or treat at candy stations throughout the park.
- Spooky Rides and Attractions Some of the rides at Walt Disney World are just plain creepy any time of year! The Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom is one example; you ride in a black doom buggy through a haunted mansion, where you’ll meet friendly ghosts and ghouls. The smallest kids in your party might be a bit frightened, but it’s pretty tame for school-aged children. Maelstrom, in the Norway Pavilion at EPCOT, has you running from trolls and pirates. Pirates of the Caribbean (Magic Kingdom) is also a bit spooky, as it features not only pirates, but also a short flume ride in the dark. Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom, as well as Dinosaur! and Expedition Everest, both at Animal Kingdom, are also good bets, as is the very spooky Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios.
- Beyond the Main Parks At Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, campers can embark upon a haunted hayride inspired by the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. These depart every half hour from Pioneer Hall. If you are daring, you can also try snorkeling with the sharks at Typhoon Lagoon’s Shark Reef… if you’re not quite as daring, you can watch the brave swimmers through portholes.
The good news about Halloween at Walt Disney World is that almost everything is appropriate for everyone in your party, although there are height limitations on some attractions.
