San Diego for Families

If you have a family vacation coming up, have you considered going to San Diego? With its convenient location in Southern California and it’s mild climate, “America’s Finest City” is a great place to take the kids. If you’re planning to go, here are some attractions that you should consider visiting:

  • San Diego Zoo  Probably among the most famous of family attractions in San Diego, the San Diego Zoo is 100 acres of animal life. Over 4,000 animals live at the zoo, representing more than 800 species. When you arrive, you can take a bus tour of the zoo, giving you some spatial awareness of the grounds and allowing you to decide what exhibits you want to spend time at. You can also make reservations for one of the educational programs on the day of your visit, such as the Discovery Tour or the Backstage Pass. Ticket prices are $44 for adults and $34 for kids for a one-day pass. The zoo’s hours vary; it always opens at 9:00 am, and usually closes at 6:00 pm in the spring, but is open for an extra hour in the evening from  March 23 to April 7.
  • Legoland  If you haven’t been to Legoland, your vacation to San Diego is the perfect time to go. At Legoland, you’ll see Lego-themed shows, can walk through a world built of Legos, and can take the kids on several rides featuring, you guessed it, Lego characters! In San Diego, the new Legoland hotel is opening on April 5, 2013, and for a limited time, kids can stay and play for free. Regular admission fees for the park are $78 for adults and $68 for kids.
  • SeaWorld  Ride a huge manta ray through the air on a thrilling roller coaster, watch amazing dolphins flip and jump in a huge pool, marvel at huge sharks swimming by you in an enormous aquarium, interact with beluga whales, see penguins up close, and enjoy so much more when you visit SeaWorld San Diego. There are Sesame Street-themed rides and shows for the littlest members of your party, and the whole family will get a kick out of Madagascar Live: Operation Vacation. Tickets are $78 for adults and $70 for kids for a one-day pass.

When you visit your first family attraction in San Diego, be sure to let the ticket seller know which other parks you plan on visiting, as many of them have reciprocal agreements and combination tickets available. This will help you to save some money on the cost of tickets for the various attractions. Enjoy your trip to San Diego!
