If you live in Ohio, Kentucky or Illinois, or if you plan to visit any of these states this fall, you may find that Cincinnati, Ohio, is convenient to you. Sometimes called, “Queen City,” Cincinnati is often thought of as the first true American city, because it was the first one founded after the Revolutionary War. The city is teeming with historic architecture and offers cultural events throughout the year. Autumn is a beautiful time to visit Cincy, as the weather will be crisp and cool, and the fall foliage will be outstanding. If you are planning to visit Queen City sometime this fall, here are some activities that you might consider:
-
Enjoy the performing arts. Cincinnati is home to many venues that features shows of all types! This fall, check out Ghost: The Musical or Bus Stop at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in downtown Cincy. Other Desert Cities and Rapture, Blister, Burn are both playing at the Ensemble Theater. If alternative theater is more your style, Know Theatre of Cincinnati is featuring Bull, a comedy about office politics and the current economy. You might also enjoy Slasher, a thought-provoking show hosted at the Monmouth Theater this fall.
-
Take a riverboat ride. A great way to see the beautiful Cincinnati riverfront is to take a cruise on a riverboat. Your options will include daytime cruises, lunch and dinner cruises, all day mini-vacations and nighttime cruises that include dancing under the stars. There are several cruises that will appeal to those looking for some Halloween fun, such as those featuring haunted pirate ships and special treats for the little goblins in your family. This time of year is perfect for a riverboat cruise, because the fall foliage creates a stunning backdrop.
- Fall-o-Ween Festival at Coney Island. If you are visiting Queen City on a weekend, you might be able to participate in the Fall-o-Ween Festival. Your admission ($10 for kids and adults, plus $5 for parking) includes the 24 classic Coney Island rides, which include kiddie rides for the little ones. Your children under age 12 can go trick-or-treating at the Moonlight Pavilion, and there will be pony rides and a petting zoo for young animal lovers. Entertainment will include a “Monster Bash,” a Halloween magic show, and a not-too-scary haunted hayride. There are additional activities available for a fee, as well.
Visiting Queen City is a great way to spend a sunny September or October weekend if you are already in the area. The region also makes a nice getaway if you’re able to spend more time in Ohio or Kentucky!
