However, you’re missing out if you don’t eat in one of the restaurants offering Serbian food. For a really good meal, try the Panta Rei, where you can begin with an appetizer of Pazinske njoke, or gnocchi and mushroom truffles in sauce. Follow that up with a traditional Serbian veal dish with potatoes, and finish it off with a big slice of chocolate cake.

  • What to Do  If you’re going to be in Belgrade in January, you will definitely want to check out the International Folk Dance Festival that will be taking place between January 3 and January 6 this year. In addition to Serbian dancers, you’ll be able to watch dancers from countries like Turkey, Spain, France,Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece and more. If you’re looking for something free to do in Belgrade, visit the Kalemegdan Fortress, otherwise known as the Belgrade Fortress. This fascinating piece of history dates back to the year 535, and it is a protected historical site. If you’re interested in shopping while you’re there, the place to look for bargains is along Knez Mihailova. This well stocked shopping street also offers the chance to check out some beautiful local architecture.
