May is the perfect time to travel. The heat of the summer hasn’t kicked in yet and a lot of cities aren’t that crowded. Here’s our list for the Best Places to Travel in May.

New Orleans
May is a great time to visit New Orleans. Towards the middle and end of the month there aren’t a lot of events going on that usually draw large crowds. It’s not hot and sticky like it tends to be during the summer months. It’s the perfect time to enjoy some of the outdoor activities in the area or experience some of the nightlife. May 21-14 is the New Orleans Food and Wine Festival. Restaurants, art and antiques galleries, and other institutions throughout New Orleans open their doors for five days of wine tastings, food samples and live music.

Bahamas
During the month of May rates start to drop in the Bahamas. The humidity is low, and hurricane season has not begun. Fy into Freeport or Nassau, or spend just the day in Nassau on a 3 or 4 night Bahamas cruise.  There are so many things to see and do while in Nassau including visiting the Atlantis, Paradise Island, or taking in some water sports. A popular attraction for families is the swimming with the dolphins on Blue Lagoon Island. Perhaps watch the changing of the guards ceremony or attend a tea party at the government house.

Greece
Greece is a great place to visit, but it can be hard to take in all the sights when it’s crowded. During the month of May it’s not as crowded and many of the local accommodations are deeply discounted. Both the days and evenings are a comfortable temperature. It’s a great time for hiking up Samaria Gorge or visitings towns like Chania, Knossos or Crete. In Athens, On May 11, 18 and 25th you can see the changing of the guards at the tomb of the Unknown Solder each Sunday at 11 am.  In late May you can watch a renowned Greek folkloric dance company of 75 dancers, singers and musicians perform directly across from the Acropolis in the Dora Stratou Theatre.  If you enjoy soccer, the Panathinaikos club plays several home games in the month of May.  Island hopping is the most popular Greece package we book each year where you begin in Athens and then either fly or ferry to surrounding islands such as Mykonos and Santorini.

Italy
Virtually every part of Italy is good to visit in May. Tuscany is absolutely beautiful with its flowers in bloom. Cities like Florence, Cortona and Umbria have festival in May that are a favorite among locals and tourists alike. For example in Florence, you can attend Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the oldest Italian music festival.  In Rome you can watch several Operas and ballets at Teatro del’Opera, Piazza Beniamino.  You can also see several concerts at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Ceciia.  Like the Greeks, Italians are very passionate about their soccer, so its a unique experience to go watch a game played at Stadio Olimpico on a Sunday afternoon.

Australia
Travel to Australia in May is popular because it’s actually the month before their winter begins and many individuals try to take advantage of that. It’s the perfect time to take a day trip Ningaloo Reef to try catch a view of the Whale Sharks or to Sydney to see the Sydney Opera House. If you are in Sydney throughout the month of May you can see the Australian Ballet, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs or an Opera performed in the Sydney Opera House.  The local rugby team has frequent games at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Peru
Have you ever dreamed of hiking the Inca Trail in Peru? The month of May is the perfect time of year to do just that. The rainy season is finally over and the valleys are beautiful and green. Visitors can also explore the Amazon Rainforest which covers about 60% of the country. Travelers that want to do something adventurous often travel to Huacachina to go sand boarding over giant sand dunes.
