Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary

1075

Disneyland is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. In true Disney style, the festivities will be big. While not all of the details have been released yet, here’s what we know so far about this event.

Paint The Night Parade– This parade will be taking place on Main Street U.S.A. at night and will feature over a million LED lights. This is Disneyland’s first parade that will only be using LED lights to illuminate the floats. The theme behind it is Mickey Mouse and his incredible imagination. In addition to the lights and floats there will be performances and special appearances by characters from Toy Story, Cars, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Monsters, Inc. Guests will be in for a real treat with this parade.

Disneyland Forever Firework Spectacular– As elaborate as Disneyland fireworks are, these surely will be over the top in order to celebrate their 60th anniversary. There will be projections throughout the park as well as music. Guests will feel as if they have stepped into one of the many beloved Disney movies. The fireworks and projections displays will be visible throughout several places in the park including on Mainstreet U.S.A.

World of Color-Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney– Disney California Adventure’s Paradise Bay lagoon is the backdrop to this spectacular show. It will feature lasers, fountains, music and special effects as Mickey himself honors Walt Disney and his legacy.

Other Events
In addition to all of this, both the Carthay Circle Theatre and Sleeping Beauty Castle will receive a diamond medallion. Disneyland will be fully decorated in many different shades of blue and there will be various banners and décor around the park.

The celebrations are set to begin on May 22. When Disneyland opened in 1955 there were only 18 attractions. Today it has grown to around 100 attractions in addition to all the shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities available. Over 700 million people have visited Disneyland over the last 6 decades. When Walt Disney dreamt up the idea of a theme park he probably had no idea that it would grow to be the massive empire that it is today. Disney officials are still unveiling information on the upcoming events. We can wait to see what else will be occurring during their 60th anniversary celebration. Although it will be busy, this summer will certainly be a great time to visit Disneyland!
