How to Use Pinterest for Travel Planning

Do you like to collect articles and pictures from magazines of neat places to travel? Have you ever made a “bucket list” of places that you’d like to go too? There’s a much more organized and addicting way to plan for your upcoming or dream trip thanks to Pinterest. This site allows you to keep all your photos and ideas in one spot. Here’s a run-down of how to use Pinterest when travel planning.

Pinterest Pins And Boards
How Pinterest basically works is that you can search for a specific topic and numerous photos (pins) are displayed. For example, if you put in the words “Eiffel Tower” you will see thousands of photos that depict everything from general pictures of the Eiffel Tower to more in depth information about it. Once you click on one of these photos you can either “Pin it” or go straight to the website where the pin came from.

What I like to do when I am planning a trip somewhere is to make a “Board” for that particular place. To make a new board, all you have to do is click the “Create A Board” button that has the plus sign next to it. A lot of people make a board for each place they want to travel too. You could also make various boards related to travel such as “Travel Tips” or “Travel Ideas”.

Once you create your travel boards, when you find a pin related to it, you just click the “Pin It” button so you can keep all of your related pins in those specific boards. It makes finding that information in the future fairly quick and easy. You may also want to break down your topics even further. For example, instead of just making an all-inclusive board on Italy you could make boards individual boards for Rome, Florence and Tuscany and even break it down further into “Places To Eat In Rome” or “Things To Do While In Venice”.  How about wines of Italy, cars of Italy, Italy fashions – whatever you want – let your imagination go.

Following Boards
One of the great things about Pinterest is that you can follow boards that have been created by other people. While browsing pins you might find that someone has the same travel interests as you based on their pins. By following a board you will just basically see their pins in your home feed when you log in. This is a good way to get some new ideas from others with minimum work on your end. If you have buddies that you travel with quite a bit, following each other on Pinterest will allow you to easily share ideas back and forth as well. You can also follow your favorite travel magazines, travel agencies and hotels.

Pinterest is very useful when it comes to travel planning. It really allows you to research destinations that you want to go and gives you one easy place to come back and find the information later.

If you haven’t already started using Pinterest, I encourage you to do so. Fair warning, you may find yourself “pinning” for hours!
