Craziest New Spa Trends

Sure, pedicures, massages and face scrubs are still popular at spas, but new trends are emerging. Travelers are paying big money to be part of some of these indulgences. If want an adventurous spa treatment, take a look at some of the craziest new spa trends emerging.

Forest Bath
Despite the name, you won’t actually be taking a bath in the forest. Basically you will be walking through the trees and trying to soak in all the sights, sounds and smells. Supposedly this will help lower your blood pressure and get you to relax. This is a popular practice in Japan and South Korea.

Psammotherapy
Do you find warm sand being placed on your body relaxing? If so, then this spa trend is for you. Participants lay on a table and get sand applied and massaged into their bodies and then get a luxurious rinsing off. This treatment helps get rid of aches and pains. This treatment can be found throughout the world, even in the United States.

The Silent Treatment
Silence can be relaxing. No wonder many people are turning to this spa treatment as a way to unwind. In Finland spa goers can immerse themselves in a space that is completely free of noise while they get pampered.

Hot Springs
Although this practice isn’t exactly new, it’s has become quite popular over the last year. Throughout the world there are many hot springs where individuals can go sit, relax and rejuvenate themselves, with many of them being in Costa Rica. It’s sort of like nature’s own hot tub.

Liquor Soaks
Liquor not only can be good inside your body, but outside of it as well. In places like the Czech Republic and Japan, spa goers can sit in a bath filled with wine or beer. Supposedly it helps to detoxify the body and improve overall circulation.

Cactus Massage
This trend is good for those that don’t mind a little bit of pain with their spa treatment. In Mexico individuals can get a cactus massage. How it works is the massage therapist uses cactus paddies to massage the cactus blossom and cactus meringue into the skin. For the most part, the paddies are free of cactus pricks. This treatment helps rehydrate the skin.

Many of these spa treatments do sound interesting. If you are looking for a unique spa experience during your next vacation, we can help you find a resort to suit your needs and desires, no matter how uncommon it may be.

There are also wonderful spa treatments available on cruise ships. Celebrity cruise line works in conjunction with Canyon Ranch Spa.  Guests can stay in spa cabins (AquaClass,) which have easy access to the spa facilities as well as dining in a restaurant exclusive to suite guests called Blu.  The cabins also come with a pillow menu, complimentary bottled water, an upgraded shower head and linens and access to a room service menu with healthy choices.  A “spa concierge” books treatments, provides product information and offers recommendations from the wellness library for AquaClass guests, as well.

The spa itself offers an aromatic steam room, a Finnish sauna, herbal sauna and sensory showers.  You can choose from several unique body wraps including a cucumber & aloe. Other ingredients used in some of their treatment include ground coffee, sugar, sea salt, mint, olive oil, lemons, biodynamic honey, organic milk, exfoliated with bioactive peat enzymes, crushed bamboo, and ripe, antioxidant-rich Arctic cloudberries.
