Over the last month, Universal Studios Orlando has released big plans for their parks. Recently they announced a new King Kong ride set to open next year and now they have plans to venture into a whole new area. During an International Drive event that occurred last week, a map was given out that detailed some of the improvements and developments in the area and among them was a new waterpark called Volcano Bay that is set to open in 2017. Here’s what we know about it so far.

About The Waterpark
The waterpark will be the Universal Orlando’s third park and will join Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida. The focal point of the park will be a smoking volcano. So far plans reveal a clear tunnel that leads to a water slide with a wave pool at the bottom. There will also be a yellow and green waterslide as well as a waterfall and a viewing platforms where guests can watch their friends and family go down the slides. In addition to all of this there will be a rapids type ride for guests that want a little thrill as well as a lazy river for those that want to relax. Volcano Bay will be geared towards families.

Location and Surrounding Area
Volcano Bay will built on 53 acres that are located south of the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. This will be Central Florida’s sixth waterpark with the other five being at LEGOLAND, SeaWorld and two at Disney. Originally the park was set to open in the fall of next year, but due to delays, construction was pushed back. Many feel as if this waterpark will be a welcome addition to the other waterparks in the Central Florida area.

Plans were originally submitted for the new waterpark back in February Universal Orlando has quite the momentum going with the very successful The Wizarding World of Harry Potter- Diagon Alley ride that opened in 2014 and the plans for the King Kong attraction set to open next year as well as this new waterpark that they are aiming to open the following year. There’s no word yet on what the hours for the park will be or how much tickets will cost, but they will probably be similar to other waterparks in the area. Universal Orlando has yet to comment on the park’s plans that were released last week.
