The Strand Hotel in Myanmar is one of the only grand colonial hotels that is located in Southeast Asia. This 5 star hotel, which was built in 1901, is planning to branch out starting next year. They will be offering river cruises on their new ship, Strand Cruise. This cruise will offer an intimate, but luxurious voyage for passengers that is similar to that of what hotel guests experience.
The Ship
There will only be 27 cabins available on this small ship that was built from scratch. It will include floor to ceiling balconies, a pool, reflexology station, beauty parlor and cocktail lounge. There’s also a large sun deck for guests to lounge around by the pool or take in the view of the Ayeryarwady waterway. The rooms will only have the finest linens so guests will get to experience a truly luxurious experience. Bathrooms will have large marble sinks and a walk-in shower. Guests can also take advantage of the satellite Wi-Fi to keep in touch with friends and family or business contacts while sailing down the river.
The Strand Experience
Guests onboard will get to experience things that guests at The Strand Hotel experience. This includes butler service, afternoon tea and Strand cocktails. For those that book a room in one of the two Strand suites they can add a spa treatment and a night’s stay at The Strand Hotel either before or after the cruise.
Sailings
The first sailings will take place in the beginning of January. Guests can choose either a three or four night cruise between Bagan and Mandalay. For guests that choose to sail between January and March 2016 they will be able to enjoy reduced rates. Itineraries include stops at quite a few landmarks including the Tant Kyi Taung temple, temples in Bagan and the U-being bridge.
The Strand Cruise will only be able to accommodate 54 passengers. This will allow the ship’s staff to take care of their guest’s needs and offer them a more personalized experience, similar to what they would get if they were staying at their signature hotel. The idea behind this ship came about when The Strand Hotel saw that luxury travel was growing and they wanted to branch out beyond their successful hotel. Fares will start at $1,782 per person for three nights and $1,976 for four nights. Rates include house wine and beer during meals, soft drinks, meals onboard and excursions.
