When it comes to amusements, everyone wants to have the biggest and best out there. Germany seems to do just that with the world’s biggest indoor waterpark. It’s not just the massive 710,000 square feet that has visitors in awe, but the attractions inside of it as well.

Location

The Tropical Islands waterpark is located in Brand, Germany and is about 37 miles south of Berlin. It can be reached by taking the A13 motorway or taking a train on the Berlin-Gorlitz line.

What There Is To Do

It’s housed in a former airplane hangar and can accommodate up to 7,000 visitors at one time. It has an indoor beach, water rides and themed areas. These areas include:

  • The Bali Lagoon- It is 13,000 square feet and has two water slides, whirlpools, a canal and fountains. In this area the water is kept at a whopping 90 degrees.
  • The Rainforest- This area consists of a 50,000 different plants, with some of them being rare. This is the biggest indoor rainforest in the world.
  • The Tropical Sea- It makes up a good portion of Tropical Islands at 47,000 square feet. It looks like a coral island and has a pool, 850 lounge chairs and a sandy beach.
  • The Tropical Village- This area features copies of well-known buildings from Bali, Borneo, Samoa and Thailand.

There’s also a play area for children that’s 4,000 m² as well as a golf course. In 2007 a spa and sauna were added and they feature vitality showers, steam baths and a sweat lodge. While at the waterpark, guests can store their stuff in the changing area that has close to 7,000 lockers available for use. There are also many restaurants and bars to eat in or grab a drink at.

Accommodations

For those that want to visit Tropical Islands, they can even spend the night inside of the park. There are guest rooms and lodges and two “Rainforest Camps” that have tents available to stay in. There are also holiday homes available to rent, just outside of the waterpark, which were built in 2010. For travelers that want a truly unique experience, there is a campsite nearby that offers canvas or wooden teepees to stay the night at as well.

This waterpark first opened in 2004. Each year it brings in over half a million visitors. The waterpark is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
