Fall’s almost here and with that come the changing of the leaves if you live in the central or northern part of the country. Here are our tops picks of places to see the leaves change this year.
New York
There are many different places to see fall foliage in New York. Glimmerglass State Park is an excellent place to see the leaves change and go hiking as well. Want to make a day trip out of it? Barton Orchards has a whole host of activities for families that include apple picking, a corn maze, train and hayrides. For those that want to stay around the city, head on over to Central Park. The last few weeks of October are perfect times to see the fall foliage and there are usually other activities going on in the park as well.
West Virginia
Throughout West Virginia you can see the leaves change in the month of October. In particular, Grant County has many opportunities to see fall foliage in one of the state parks or just off of the beaten path. The Autumn Splendor Dinner Train is a favorite among visitors. Riders will travel through Petersburg and will get to have dinner, dessert and wine all while viewing the beautiful fall foliage out of the windows of the train.
Vermont
This state is one of the most well-known places to see the leaves change in the United States. The Green Mountains and Lake Champlain Islands are popular places to go to see the fall foliage. Looking for a more in depth view? Consider driving through the state and stopping at some of the historical attractions or fall festivals that are taking place.
Oregon
The state of Oregon is a popular place to see the leaves change. With many of the state’s waterfalls and gorges serving as a backdrop to the leaves, make sure you don’t forget your camera! For a real treat, visit one of the local wineries to sample not only the wine, but to see the leaves changing as well. For a scenic drive, the Columbia River Highway features valleys and 900-foot tall cliffs. If you want to spend some time outdoors, hike the 1.2 miles at Multnomah Falls.
