Unique Gas Stations To Stop At On A Road Trip

Stopping for gas doesn’t have to be boring when you are on a road trip. Sure, it is a necessity, but it can also be a memorable part of the road trip experience. As you travel throughout the U.S., you will find that gas stations vary quite a bit. Here are some of the most memorable gas stations to stop at on a road trip.

Helios House In Los Angeles

Helios House gas station looks like it’s something right out of the future. It opened in 2007 and was constructed using eco-friendly practices. On the roof, there are solar panels that collect rainwater that is used for the water needs of the gas station. The gas station is made out of mostly recycled materials.

Hollow Mountain Station In Hanksville

Located in Utah, Hollow Mountain Station was literally carved into the side of a mountain. Constructed back in 1984, many travelers stop here just to go inside of the convenience store to see what all of the fuss is about. If you want to see the mountain up close, make sure you go into the restroom.

Buc-ee’s In New Braunfels

What makes this Texas gas station so unique is its size. It’s actually one of the largest gas stations in the world. It has 1,000 parking spots and 120 gas pumps. The convenience store is also massive as it measures 67,000 square feet. To put it into perspective, that’s about the size of 20 7-Elevens.

Scallop Shell In Winston-Salem

Even if a motorist doesn’t need gas, they may be intrigued enough by the look of a gas station that they stop there. This North Carolina gas station is finding this to be true with its shell-shaped design. The gas station was designed by R.H. Burton. He was an oil distributor of a North Carolina Shell back in the 1920s. In total, 8 of these shell-shaped gas stations were built. Today, the Scallop Shell in Winston-Salem is a National Historic Landmark.

Pops In Arcadia

Soda lovers should really plan on stopping at this Oklahoma gas station on their road trip. Customers can choose from one of 700 different soda types. You can easily find this gas station, even at night, thanks to the 66-foot soda bottle that’s illuminated once the sun goes down.
