Fun and innovation are at the center of the exciting new Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship! Carnival Cruises highly anticipated upcoming cruise ship is a nod to their very first cruise ship which set sail in 1972, also called Mardi Gras. The new Carnival Mardi Gras boasts several unique features that make it one of the best new cruise ships to hit the North American market in years. Carnival’s Mardi Gras cruise ship is currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and will begin sailing to locations in the Caribbean in 2020 from Port Canaveral, Florida.
The “Greenest” Cruise Ship in North America
Mardi Gras will be Carnival’s first cruise ship in the North American market powered completely by Liquefied Natural Gas, or LNG. Liquefied Natural Gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel there is, which has earned the new Mardi Gras the title of the greenest cruise ship in North America. The Carnival Corporation is striving to be a leader in green initiatives in the cruising industry. They launched AIDAnova, the world’s first LNG fueled cruise ship in late 2018 for AIDA Cruises, the leading cruise line in Germany.
First Roller Coaster at Sea
Carnival aims to make fun and entertainment the stars of the festive new Mardi Gras cruise ship, which is why it will also feature the world’s first roller coaster at sea, called Bolt. Only on Mardi Gras, cruisers will get to experience the thrills of the twists and turns of a roller coaster while overlooking the vast open ocean. The massive new Mardi Gras cruise ship will also showcase a ton of innovative entertainment features, many of which are still in the top-secret phase as the vessel is still under construction in Finland. You can sign up for updates on the Mardi Gras cruise ship on Carnival Cruise Line’s website.
Carnival’s New XL Class Cruise Ships
Mardi Gras will be the first ship in Carnival’s brand new XL class of cruise ships. The ship will be Carnival’s largest cruise ship once construction is complete. Carnival’s new Mardi Gras will feature a unique design and layout, and will be more than six times the size of its namesake ship. It will have 2,600 staterooms and can accommodate 6,500 passengers, far exceeding Carnival’s Vista-class of cruise ships. Mardi Gras will be joined by a second, yet unnamed, XL class cruise ship which begins construction in 2020 and will be completed in 2022 to celebrate the 50th year of Carnival Cruise Line’s founding.
