Broadway Shows To Stream in December

Broadway is dark until June 2021, but as they say, the show must go on! While there are plenty of ways to view filmed versions of old musicals and plays online (check out BroadwayHD), the shutdown means that it’ll be much harder to get your fix of cutting-edge new theatrical works. Luckily, there are ways to stream some news and old favorites online.

The Best of Broadway – hosted by Tina Fey with Barbara Streisand, Antonio Banderas with his Spanish cast of A Chorus Line, Sutton Foster, who was to appear on Broadway at this time in The Music Man, and cast members from several Broadway productions will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. It airs tonight, December 10 at 8pm. There will be an appearance from the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and a sneak peek at shows arriving next year.

The NBC celebration will also feature performances by Kelly Clarkson, Brett Eldredge and Patti LaBelle. Donations during the telecast will benefit Broadway Cares to help those  in the Broadway community who are struggling through the pandemic.

Ruthless! The Musical – This camp cult classic musical starring Jason Gardner, (Dancing on ice in the U.K.) & Kim Maresca spoofs the Broadway musicals, as well as some iconic films. Premiering in 1992, the show is responsible for discovering young performers Britney Spears and Natalie Portman.

Hamilton is available now to stream a filmed performance of the original cast on Disney Plus. The performance was originally intended for theatrical release when the pandemic closed cinemas around the world.
