Cruises are a great way to travel. What’s more perfect than exploring new cultures while soaking up the sun and dipping your toes in turquoise waters? Cruises offer stress-free flexibility and so much included in the price, which makes it a perfect choice for all ages.

There are several things to consider when booking a cruise. For example, there is choosing the best cruise and how to choose the right cabin, but before finalizing your plans, depending on your age or the age of your children, you need to know that cruise lines do have age requirements. Which cruises allow people under 21? Cruise Line Age policies vary.

Azamara Cruise Lines Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On an Azamara Cruise you can consume alcohol if you are over the age of 21. On ships in Europe and South America, where the legal drinking age is 18, parents can sign a waiver to allow then to drink at age 18.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on an Azamara Cruise. Transatlantic cruises require children to be 12 months of age
  • Unaccompanied Minors/Minimum Age to have your own cabin: Guests are required to be 21 years of age (on embarkation day) to travel on their own. Guest ages will be verified at the time of boarding.

Carnival Cruise Lines Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Carnival Cruise you can consume alcohol if you are over the age of 21.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Carnival Cruise. Transatlantic cruises require a child to be at least 12 months old.
  • Unaccompanied Minors/Minimum Age to have your own cabin: Guests are required to be 21 years of age (on embarkation day) to travel in their own cabin. 18 to 20 year olds can book their own cabin as long as they are traveling with smeone over the age of 25. Those 13 to 17 are permitted to stay in their own staterooms, up to three cabins away from a family member or guardian who is at least 25 years old, although we recommend connecting staterooms in these situations. Exceptions are made for cruisers younger than 21 who are married and traveling with a spouse, or in the military. Marriage certificate or proof of active military status is required.

Celebrity Cruise Lines Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Celebrity Cruise you can consume alcohol if you are over the age of 21. On ships in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand the drinking age is 18.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Celebrity Cruise. Transatlantic cruises or any itinerary that has more than 3 consecutive seas days require the child to be 12 months of age.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum Age to have your own cabin: Guests are required to be 21 years of age (on embarkation day) to travel on their own. Minors can stay in their own cabins, but they must either be directly across the hall from, next door or connected to the stateroom of an adult, at least 21 years old, in the same travel party.

Crystal Cruises Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Crystal Cruise you can consume hard liquor if you are over 21 years of age. Beer and wine can be consumed at 18 years of age, but when docked within 3 miles of port guest must be 21.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Crystal Cruise.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum Age to have your own cabin: Guests age 17 and under must be in a stateroom either with a parent or guardian over 21 years of age. No one under 18 is permitted in the Ship’s casino or to participate in any monetary-based games of chance including Bingo.

Disney Cruises Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – The drinking age on board a Disney Cruise is 21, and a valid photo I.D. is required. However, during roundtrip cruises departing from any European country that has a lower drinking age, parents or guardians may sign a Beverage Consent Form that allows their 18- to 20-year-old children to consume alcoholic beverages while in the adult’s presence.
  • Infant – The minimum age to sail on a Disney Cruise is 6 months, except on trans-ocean cruises and voyages to Hawaii or the Panama Canal, where passengers must be at least 12 months old.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum Age to have your own cabin: All minors must be in a cabin with an adult age 21 or over.

Holland America Cruise Line Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Holland America Cruise you can consume alcohol if you are over the age of 21. The legal drinking age on board will be 18 for voyages which are round trip from Europe, China, Hong Kong, Singapore or Taiwan. The legal drinking age is 20 for cruises that are round trip from Japan.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Holland America Cruise. Transatlanic, Asia, South America, the South Pacific and Hawaii cruises where there are more than two consecutive sea days require the baby to be at least 12 month old.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: Passengers must be 21 years old to travel on their own. Travelers under the age of 21 must share a cabin with parent or guardian. Certain cruises require passengers 21 – 24 years old to be accompanied by someone 25 years or older.

Norwegian Cruise Lines Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise you can consume alcohol if you are over the age of 21. Beer and wine can be consumed by 18 to 20 year olds when in international waters.
  • Infant – children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Norwegian Cruise Line Cruise. Voyages of 3 or more days at sea have a minimum age requirement of 12 months.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum Age to have your own cabin: Norwegian Cruise lines policy is that a young adult under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom (or a connecting or adjoining stateroom) by a guest 21 years of age at the time of boarding. Minors are considered under the age of 18. There are exceptions for married couples & active military.

Oceania Cruise Lines Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On an Oceania Cruise you can consume alcohol if you are over the age of 21. Beer and wine can be consumed at age 18 when in international waters.
  • Infant – Children must be 1 year of age to travel on an Oceania Cruise. Oceania does not provide for the care entertainment or supervision of children.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: Any guest under the age of 18 must be accompanied by and occupy the same stateroom as an adult 18 years or older.

Princess Cruises Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Princess Cruise you can consume alcohol if you are over the age of 21. For Australia, New Zealand, China, Europe and Singapore the drinking age is 18.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Princess Cruise. With two or more consecutive days at sea or a transatlantic cruise, the child must be 12 months old.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/ Minimum age to have your own cabin: Princess requires 21 years of age for your own cabin. An exception is made for family groups where multiple cabins are booked. In those cases, the minimum age is 16 to be in a cabin.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Age Policy

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Royal Caribbean Cruise you can consume alcohol at 21 years of age in North America or the Caribbean. Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe and Asia require the guest to be 18.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Royal Caribbean Cruise.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: No guest younger than 21 years of age will be assigned a stateroom unless accompanied in the same stateroom by an adult 21 years or older for cruises in North America. In other parts of the world an 18 year old can have their own cabin.

Regent Cruise Lines Age Restrictions

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Regent Cruise Line cruise you can consume alcohol at 21 years of age.
  • Infant – Children must be 12 months of age to travel on a Regent Cruise Line cruise. Regent does not provide for the care, entertainment or supervision of children.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: Any guest under the age of 18 must be accompanied by and occupy the same suite as an adult 18 years or older.

Seabourn Cruise Line Age Requirements

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Seabourn Cruise you can consume alcohol at 21 years of age.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Seabourn Cruise. There are no special programs for children.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin:  No guest under 21 years of age is permitted to book a cruise and any guest under 21 years of age must travel in a suite with a guest 21 years or older who shall assume responsibility for their care during the cruise.

Silversea Cruise Line Age Policies

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Silversea Cruise you must be 21 years of age to consume alcohol.
  • Infant – Children must be 6 months of age to travel on a Silversea Cruise. On Silversea Expeditions the minimum age is 6.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied in the same or connecting suite by a parent or other responsible adult over the age of 21.

Star Clippers Cruise Line Age Restrictions

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Star Clipper Cruise you can consume alcohol at 21 years of age
  • Infant – There is no minimum age to sail on a Star Clipper Cruise. Under 2 years pays only port fees and gratuities.
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: The minimum age to have your own cabin on a Star Clipper Cruise is 18 years of age.

Viking Cruise Lines Age Limit

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Viking Cruise you can consume alcohol at 21 years of age
  • Infant – Children must be 12 years of age to sail on a Viking Cruise
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: The minimum age to have your own cabin on a Viking Cruise is 21 years.

Windstar Cruise Lines Age Policy

  • Alcoholic Beverage Policy – On a Windstar Cruise you can consume alcohol at 21 years of age
  • Infant – Windstar does not accept children under 8 years of age
  • Unaccompanied Minor/Minimum age to have your own cabin: Windstar requires at least one person in each cabin to be 21 years of age. An exception may be made for a married couple as long as they are both 18.
