Where to go Glacier Skiing
If you can only travel in the summer, you may feel a little bummed out because you can’t ski. Fortunately, glacier skiing allows you to enjoy skiing no matter what time of year it is. While there most likely won’t be any fresh powder to ski on, you can still enjoy a smooth run if you go skiing first thing in the morning. Are you ready to try some glacier skiing this summer? If the answer is yes, then you’ll need to visit one of the following places.
Les Deux Alpes in France
With 11 different runs and 17 lifts, you can spend all morning here. This resort is open each day from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from the end of June until September. For those that are wanting to freestyle, there’s an 18-hectare area that’s filled with everything from big air jumps to halfpipes. Kids can also enjoy a freestyle camp and can hang around in the afternoon to practice tricks on a trampoline. Around 1,500 people visit Les Deux Alpes each day in the summer as compared to 10,000 a day in the winter. Since the summer isn’t nearly as packed on this glacier, we certainly recommend France vacation packages during this time.
Saas-Fee in Switzerland
Glacier skiing doesn’t start here until the middle of July but goes on until the end of October. The glacier can only be accessed by funicular train or cable car, but it’s worth it to conquer the 3,600 meters to the top. There are over 12 miles of pistes as well as a freestyle park. Visitors can also enjoy a meal at the revolving restaurant after they are finished conquering the glacier. Browse Switzerland tour packages that include adventure and luxury stays.
Stubai Glacier in Austria

Here you can find the largest glacier slopes in Austria with 1,450 hectares of slopes. This includes over 38 miles of runs and 26 different lifts. There’s also a viewing platform that extends over the slopes as well as a playground for the kids. Zermatt in Switzerland
From the months of June through September, you can enjoy over 14 miles of runs. You can also get a good view of the world-famous Matterhorn. At the ski area’s top, you can find the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, where you can take a lift down the glacier, and see the inside of it that includes numerous ice sculptures.
