Carnival Cruise Thermal Cameras & NCL’s New Health Protocols Top This Week’s Cruise News

In partnership with Infrared Cameras Inc., Carnival Cruise Line will add tIn partnership with Infrared Cameras Inc., Carnival Cruise Line will add thermal camera systems for both crew and passenger temperature screenings. ICI’s comprehensive three-step solution to temperature screening includes a thermal camera, blackbody and a computer. This will likely be used at the cruise terminal at the time of check-in, and perhaps also at the gangway when people return from being in port for the day. This measure is critical for the revitalization of the cruise industry in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Princess Cruises cancels more sailings. With Canada ounces earlier this week that cruises have been suspended through the end of October, and Australia also banning cruise ships until September 17th, 2020, Princess posted a new advisory cancelling Australia cruises on the Sea, Majestic, Sun & Sapphire Princess ships as well as all September and October cruises out of Vancouver on the Coral, Emerald, Grand, Royal, Ruby & Star Princess.

Celebrity Cruises has also cancelled several more sailings due to travel bans. “As a result of the Government of Canada’s decision to extend its restriction on cruise ships carrying more than 100 guests until Oct. 31, Celebrity’s 2020 sailings to Canada and Alaska and as well as notable fall itineraries such as Canada/New England, Hawaii and a few repositioning cruises must be canceled.”

Royal Caribbean also released a statement that it has cancelled more cruises due to the ban on cruise ships by Canada including Alaska, Canada, New England, and Hawaii.

For impacted sailings, both cruise lines are offering compensation of 125% Future Cruise Credit (FCC) will be processed automatically. The future Cruise Credit is good through December 31st, 2021. If you prefer to forfeit the higher value of the 125% Future Cruise Credit, you can also request a full refund. NCL Cruises outlined details for their new health measures when cruises resume. This will entail enhanced screening protocols, responsible social distancing by sailing with less guests, increased sanitation measures, new air filtration system, extended ship to shores safety and enhanced medical resources.
