There were a lot of cruise innovations that were unveiled this year on the high seas. While most of the major cruise lines added something avante-gard to a cruise ship or two, one cruise line definitely topped the rest with some of the things they introduced to travelers in 2014. As you’re reading our top 5 list of cruise innovations this year, try to see if you can figure out what cruise ship had the most innovations in 2014.
Robot Bartenders
One of the coolest features that we’ve seen thus far are the robot bartenders on Quantum of the Seas. How it works is that you order your drinks via tablet while at the Bionic Bar. Then either the robot B1-O or N1-C pours and mixes your drink. After they make it, it is brought to you on a conveyor belt.
Incredible Views
Royal Caribbean introduced us to a ride that’s allows travelers a one of a kind view of the ocean. North Star features a capsule, that’s made of glass and has the capabilities to rise 128 feet above the sea. This makes for an amazing view. Norwegian introduced their own way for travelers to feel as if they are floating above the water with The Plank. Travelers can walk on a plank that extends out several feet beyond the ship. All participants have a harness secured to them to ensure their safety.
Indoor Fun
Quantum of the Seas unveiled a whole new way to entertain ourselves while onboard a cruise. SeaPlex is a sports center that is indoors and has a variety of activities including volleyball, basketball and roller-skating. One of the most innovative things about SeaPlex are bumper cars. If that isn’t enough to get your adventurous juices flowing, there’s also a circus school where you can tryout the flying trapeze.
Real-Time Views
One of the worst things about being on a cruise ship and having an interior state room is not feeling like you know what’s going on outside. Virtual balconies have changed all that. These 80-inch screens that are found on Quantum of the Seas, offer real time views of the sea for guests to enjoy.
Magical Acts
Norwegian Cruise Line has brought the world of magic to the Norwegian Getaway ship. These dinner shows take places in the Illusionarium and feature a high level of special effects as well as mine boggling illusions from some of the top magicians in the world. Some of the tables in the back rise and fall throughout the performance and some of the seats shake as well.
Were you able to guess which ship had the most innovations in 2014? If you guessed Quantum of the Seas you are correct. With all of these new innovations, never before has it been so much fun to go on a cruise. We can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for the cruise industry.
