Koningsdam, Holland America Line’s new cruise ship, will be of the Pinnacle Class and is expected to launch in February of next year. The name means “king” in Dutch and will be the largest ship in the fleet. This massive ship will be over 99,000 tons. The ship will have three decks and an atrium that is capped with skylights. This highly anticipated ship will be offering some new things as well as bringing some of the Holland American favorites back along with it.
Ship Firsts
This ship will have several “firsts” for the cruise line. There will be two rather large pools for cruisers to enjoy. There will also be family ocean view cabins so families can all spend time together without sacrificing ocean views. There will also be a new restaurant and new entertainment opportunities as well.
Cabins
The new family ocean view cabins will accommodate up to five guests and will have two bathrooms. There will also be single cabins for those that are “solo cruisers”. In addition to these there will be interior cabins, ocean view cabins, verandah cabins and a variety of suites. Cabins start at 143 square feet with the largest being 1,290 square feet for the Pinnacle Suites. Each cabin will have things like flat screen TVs and bedside USB ports.
Activities
There’s plenty to do on the Koningsdam. Music Walk will consist of three music venues which will play a variety of music. World Stage is the main theater in the ship and there will be many different performances offered. Lincoln Center Stage will feature performances in the performing arts genre. Billboard Onboard is the place to go for those that want to have a sing-along via guitar or piano. In addition to all of this there will be the Queen’s Lounge and B.B. King’s Blues Experience.
Cruisers will have a variety of dining options on this new ship. Old favorites like the Culinary Arts Center and Lido Restaurant will be available. The “for a fee” restaurant Sel de Mer will be debuting and will feature seafood. The Grand Dutch Café will feature Dutch snacks and beverages and there will be Heineken beer on tap.
Sailings
The first stop after the Koningsdam launches is to the Mediterranean. During the summer months it will sail to Northern Europe. At the end of next year they will also be offering a Bahamas cruise and Caribbean cruises.
