River Cruises Available This Summer

There are plenty of river cruises resuming in Europe and the U.S. this summer. Keep in mind that the EU voted to reopen borders to vaccinated travelers only at this time.

American Cruise Line restarted Mississippi river cruises on the American Jazz, the Queen of the Mississippi and the America cruise ship. You can also cruise the Columbia and Snake rivers on the American Song, American Harmony and the American Pride cruise ships. American Melody will begin cruising the Mississippi river as well starting August 27th, 2021.

Lindblad Expeditions started the National Geographic Endeavour II in the Galapagos last week. In Alaska they are resuming the National Geographic Quest, National Geographic Venture, National Geographic Sea Lion and National Geographic Sea Bird.

Uncruise Adventures also resumed their popular small ship cruises focused on wilderness, wildlife and culture. In Alaska there are several itineraries available including Alaska’s Glacier Country, Northern Passage & Glacier Bay and Glacier Bay National park onboard the Wilderness Legacy, Wilderness Discoverer, Wilderness Explorer, Wilderness Adventurer and Safari Explorer. You can also book their Galapagos Islands Darwin’s Discovery cruise onboard the La Pinta.

European River Cruises

Avalon Waterways River cruises will resume in Europe on July 20, 2021 with their Paris to Normandy cruise. In August they will restart their Rhine & Moselle itineraries, the Taste of the Danube, Danube Dreams, Enchanted Europe and German Grandeur. By late August and September you can cruise all the river of France. Of course this means Christmas Market river cruises will also be available including Christmastime in Alsace & Germany, The Heart of Germany, Christmastime on the Danube and more.

  • Danube – August 10
  • Rhône – August 31
  • Moselle – September 10

Uniworld River cruises will restart in Italy and France this summer. Uniworld will restart with four ships starting on with June 18th, beginning in Italy with one of its most recent “Super Ship” transformations, S.S. La Venezia. the S.S. Bon Voyage will sail in Bordeaux beginning on June 27th, the S.S. Joie de Vivre in Paris and Normandy on July 4th, and the S.S. Catherine in Burgundy and Provence on July 11th, 2021.

AmaWaterways river cruises will restart in Portugal on July 3rd with the AmaDuoro, followed by the AmaVida on July 27th. AmaKristina will start sailing in France on the Rhone River with the Colors of Provence itinerary, while AmaLyra will begin cruising the Seine River on that same day with a Paris & Normandy cruise. AmaDolcestarts sailing in Bordeaux, France on July 29 (Taste of Bordeaux.) Finally, Ama’s newest ship, the AmaSiena is set to resume on the Rhine River on July 29 on the Captivating Rhine itinerary.

The Rhine ships include AmaMora (Aug. 5), AmaSerena and AmaLucia (Aug. 14) and AmaPrima (Aug. 24). All ships will start at 75 percent capacity & vaccines are not required but negative tests are. Please call for more details regarding your sailing and what health and safety protocols are in place.

Tauck river cruises will also resume their small ship and river cruises in Europe this summer.

Crystal River Cruises is estimating their start date as August 29th, but they have yet to release details on which ships and itineraries.

Viking cruises are back in Europe as well. The Viking Orion is cruising out of Bermuda this month as well as the Viking Sky out of Iceland, the Viking Torgil and Viking Helgri out of Portugal. In August, the Viking Sea, Viking Venus, Viking Fjorgyn, Viking Buri, Viking Hlin and Viking Star all resume cruises.
