Viking Cruises COVID Update

1072

Viking is optimistic, given the scientific advancements with COVID-19 therapeutics, and the recent and significant progress toward multiple vaccines. While recent developments are very encouraging, local travel restrictions continue to make international travel particularly complicated. Richard Marnell, the Executive Vice President announced today that they are cancelling all Viking river and ocean cruises through May 31, 2021.

“Additionally, the Canadian Government has issued a new order, prohibiting cruise vessels. We are hopeful that those measures will be lifted more quickly than expected. Therefore, beyond our suspension of operations through May 31, we are not cancelling future cruise itineraries that include a port of call in Canada.”

Viking River Cruises COVID Update

Viking river cruises recently announced new protocol enhancements to make Viking even safer. Developed in coordination with an international team of scientific and medical advisors, the Viking Health & Safety Program is one of the most comprehensive COVID-19 prevention and mitigation programs in the travel industry, including the addition of PCR testing facilities on all ocean ships.

When they resume cruising, here are just some of the things you will find on a Viking river or ocean cruise.

  • Daily PCR testing for all Viking guests and crew, processed in full-scale Viking-dedicated laboratories.
  • New air purification technology has been installed on all Viking ships, which have always featured independent air handling units for all guest staterooms.
  • Additional health checks, sanitization, and physical distancing to protect Viking guests and crew at all points of the journey.
  • Frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned and sanitzed continuously with daily scheduled deep cleanings. Ocean ships will use new sanitization robots that have UV-C lights to treat surfaces which is an industry first.
  • Each Viking ocean ship has always offered a state-of-the-art medical center, which has not been upgraded with even more specialized equipment. They have doctors on call 24/7.
  • Spacing to allow for social distancing in dining rooms.
  • New technology will allow you to watch more live events from your in-room entertainment system.
  • Face masks will be worn by all crew. Guests will be asked to wear masks as well except when seated at dining venues, bars, and lounges.
  • Only Viking shore excursions will be available initially when cruises resume. Each group will be limited in size and each person will utilize audio headsets to allow for physical distancing. Complimentary face masks will be provided if required by local guidelines.
