Are you planning a romantic getaway for you and your sweetheart? If Montreal isn’t high on your list of cities meant for lovers, it should be. This lush and lovely city offers a beautiful environment and atmosphere that make it a perfect spot for starry-eyed couples celebrating a special day, enjoying a honeymoon, or just slipping away for a romantic vacation. While you’re there, make sure to stop by some of these charming couple friendly destinations.
Spend a day in Old Montreal. This historic area located southeast of downtown Montreal is home to many attractions. Explore the cobbled streets in style while riding in a horse-drawn carriage with your sweetie. Then stop by La Tour de l’Horloge, a clock tower that offers a fantastic view of the city and the Saint Lawrence. Treat your loved one to a massage and some luxury at Montreal’s Scandinave Spa, then make sure to enjoy a candlelit dinner at one of Old Montreal’s 18th century restaurants. End the day by taking in one of the sound and light shows that take place every night Tuesday through Sunday.
Stroll through the garden. Montreal boasts the third largest garden in the world, the Jardin Botanique, which holds thirty individual gardens. Here, you can explore 700 species of orchids, the Chinese garden with 100 year old trees, and the pavilions of the Japanese garden, as well as the native plants used by the indigenous people of Quebec.
Cruise the St. Lawrence. The St. Lawrence River is always lovely. What could be more romantic than lazily drifting down the river on a sunset cruise? Admire the skyline and the stars with your other half while sailing off into the sunset.
Sweets for your sweetie. Sweet things are always a romantic gesture, and never more so than when you’re enjoying them at one of Montreal’s many bakeries. Pick up pastries and picnic supplies, or enjoy them at an adjoining café. If you’re in the mood for chocolate, try the Suite 88 Chocolatier… their artfully arranged chocolate displays are a treat for the eyes as well as the taste buds. Considering the aphrodisiac effects of chocolate, this is an excellent destination for a couple visiting Montreal.
Go ice skating. Visit Parc Lafontaine in the winter, and rent two pair of ice skates. Don’t worry if you’re not an experienced skater, that just means you have a good reason to hold on tight to your sweetheart. Natives of Montreal say their city is most beautiful just after a snowfall, so winter is an excellent time to visit.
Make sure to take time to wander with the one you love. Once you lose yourself in this delightful city, you’re sure to find memories that will last a lifetime.
