One of the misconceptions about Moscow is that many people think that they need to spend a lot of time here to really enjoy themselves. This is simply not true, as a lot of the popular sights can be seen in even just a limited amount of time. Here are some things you will not want to miss while you are in Moscow.
St. Basil’s Cathedral
The St. Basil’s Cathedral, located at Krasnaya Square, is a sight you cannot miss. This beautiful piece of architecture was built by Ivan the Terrible in the 1550s. It consists of nine separate chapels, each with its own shaped and colored dome. This is a place that will truly take your breath away.
Red Square
Another amazing place you would want to stop at is the Red Square that is located at Krasnaya Ploshchad, Moscow. It was once the site of military parades and executions. On one side of it is both the Kremlin wall and Lenin’s tomb; the other side is housed by GUM, the country’s largest department store. This is definitely a place anyone interested in history would want to make a stop at.
The State Tretyakov Gallery
You want to also make sure to visit The State Tretyakov Gallery located at Lavrushinskiy Ln, 10, Moscow. The State Tretyakov Gallery has over 180,000 works of fine art. It is home to everything from paintings to sculptures. If you want to learn about the history of Russian art, this is the place you want to see. It has quite a comprehensive collection of art that has become a symbol of this country.
The Moscow Kremlin
Located at Red Square as well, this is one site that shouldn’t be missed. It is the most famous historical and political landmark in Moscow. It is a walled-in complex filled with amazing cathedrals, beautiful palaces, as well as government offices. Several of the buildings are open to the public, so make sure that you visit them. You will be able to see the Armoury, The State Kremlin Palace, and the Patriarch’s Palace.
