To begin an exploration of Russia, St. Petersburg is the perfect combination of history, culture and romance. With its magnificent bridges, trees and palaces, St. Petersburg feels like something out of a story book.
Founded in 1703 by Tsar Peter the Great, St. Petersburg, is “young” by European standards. Considered Russia’s northern capital, the city is clean and beautiful, dominated by classical architecture, cathedrals and gardens. There are some 342 bridges within the city and among the most outstanding are the Palace Bridge, Ainchkov Bridge with its four equestrian statues, the Art Nouveu-style Trinity (Troitsky) Bridge and a marvelous pedestrian crossing, the Bank Bridge, near Kazan Cathedral. In the mid-summer local and visitors promenade along rivers and canals in what’s known as the “White Nights” a celebration of nearly endless daylight, thanks to city’s far-northern latitude.
Our Russia tour options vary from escorted tours and Russia river cruises, to train trips and independent travel vacations.
