Barcelona Spain Travel Guide: Top Attractions & Things to Do

1353

As our Crystal Cruise comes to an end, we say goodbye from the beautiful city of Barcelona.  This region of Spain is Catalonia, so the locals prefer the original dialect Catalan, but Spanish is of course spoken (as needed) and most vendors have some English in their bag of tricks. There are many museums housing masters, such as Dali, Miro and Picasso. La Sagrada Familia, Dali’s most famous creation is still work in progress and is a must see.

Like most big cities, you will be able to take the hop on, hop off buses in every direction, but most will begin and end at the ‘heart ‘ of the city which is the famous Las Ramblas. Spanning from the Plaza Cataluna to a very tall and elaborate Christopher Columbus circle, you’ll have more fun here than at Rodeo Drive. Whether people watching with sangria wine, enjoying tapas or one of the many varieties of paella, you will be entertained. The mimes have taken entertainment to a new level, as they come to life for just a Euro. And let’s not forget the flower stands, little ducks, chickens, rabbits, aquarium, and well just about anything the locals want to buy.

Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was the fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, sweets, nuts, fresh fish, well you get the picture — 2 square blocks of fresh delights including little restaurants where you had to elbow your way for a bar stool but worth the wait.

Got to go before the fresh calamari gets cold. Mmm, so fresh.

Barcelona’s beautiful architecture and vibrant culture make it one of Europe’s most captivating cities. Our advisors’ Barcelona Must-See Sites guide is your complete companion for this extraordinary city.

Why Europe Remains the World’s Most Rewarding Travel Destination

After more than 35 years of sending clients to Europe, our advisors at Atlas Travel Center can tell you something the guidebooks don’t always say clearly: every European country rewards slow travel. The travelers who come home raving aren’t the ones who checked twelve cities off a list — they’re the ones who lingered in a market, had a conversation with a local winemaker, or watched the light change over a harbor at sunset. Europe is best savored, not rushed.

That said, there are real logistics to master — and that’s where our expertise makes a meaningful difference. Rail passes versus point-to-point tickets, which airports have the smoothest connections, how far in advance to book the most popular museums and restaurants, which neighborhoods to stay in versus which to avoid — these are the details our agents have spent decades learning firsthand. Many on our team have visited the destinations they book, which means the advice you get from Atlas is grounded in real experience, not just brochure copy.
