History Of The Fountain of Montjuic
While the Great Universal Exhibition of 1929 was being designed, organizers felt as if there was something missing. Carles Buigas decided to submit his 1922 design of the magic fountains to the project organizers. This fountain turned out to be just what was needed. It wasn’t completed and ready for visitors to see until May 19, 1929. It sits in the location where The Four Columns used to stand, just below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuic Hill. It took more than 3,000 workers to build the fountains. During the Spanish Civil War, in 1939, the fountains sustained a lot of damage and needed extensive repairs. Because of this they did not begin to operate again until 1955. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that music became incorporated into the fountain’s light show.

The fountain has been feature in several movies including the Lord of the Rings, the Godfather and Gladiator.
