Helicopter Rides- Argentina and Brazil
You can get some of the best views in South America by taking a helicopter ride. Some of the most popular places to go are in Brazil and Argentina. Adventurers can fly over places like Iguazu Falls, the rainforest or a national park.

Hang Gliding- Brazil and Peru
For those that want to get a birds-eye view of South America in the open air, hang gliding is the way to go. Both Peru and Brazil have a variety of hang gliding opportunities available for adventurers. In Brazil, Tijuca National Park provides stunning views to the mountains and land below. Some of the best hang gliding in Peru takes place on its coastline.

Horseback Riding- Argentina

Surfing- Brazil and Chile

Pichilemu, Florianopolis, Arica and Bahia have excellent places to surf.

Hiking can be a difficult, but rewarding experience. One of the best places to hike in South America is the Inca Trail. Visitors can hike up to the top to see incredible views of Machu Picchu. Adventurers can use a tour guide to take them on a hike or can go it alone if they feel comfortable enough to do so.

Mountain Biking- Bolivia
Mountain biking is a popular activity in South America, especially Bolivia. One of the most well-known spots is Death Road. This route is about as dangerous as it sounds. Only the most experienced mountain bikers should try to conquer this 38 mile path. Even though it’s extremely strenuous to complete, the views are amazing and the strain is well worth it to those who complete it. Bikes are available for rent at various shops so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own.

River Rafting- Ecuador
What can be more exciting than going down a river in a raft at high speeds in South America? Ecuador has plenty of place to experience this thrilling adventure. There’s plenty of rivers near Quito for those looking for this type of adventure. Because river rafting is so popular in Ecuador, there are many different companies that offer river rafting tours so be sure to shop around to ensure that you are getting your money’s worth.

Scuba Diving, Sea Kayaking and Snorkeling- The Galapagos Islands and Belize
Adventure doesn’t just take place in South America on the land. In fact, there’s a lot going on in the ocean. The Galapagos Islands has some of the best places in the world to see some of these interesting sites while either scuba diving or snorkeling. These sights include not only penguins roaming about above the water, but four-eyed fish swimming below it. Belize is the perfect place for those that want to see some of the sights via kayaking at sea. Mangroves of different sizes are in abundance and some of the bluest water in South America can be found in Belize.

Backpacking- Bolivia and Peru
Backpacking allows travelers to see sights that they wouldn’t normally be able to see. Bolivia and Peru in particular are popular for backpackers as there’s many attractions and both countries are backpacker friendly. Some choose to just backpack for a day while others might do it for several weeks. Lake Titicaca and Aguas Calientes are both popular places for backpackers. There are also plenty of affordable accommodations available in both countries for those that want to kick off their shoes and rest for a bit after they are finished backpacking.
