If you’re looking for an area to travel to that offers a diverse range of experiences and attractions, California’s central coast is an excellent choice. It’s a great place for those who are interested in camping or outdoor activities. It has beautiful beaches. It’s home to many terrific historic and cultural sites. It also has wineries, luxurious resorts, and some terrific food. Whatever you’re looking for in a vacation, California’s central coast probably has it, and if you’re traveling with several people who have different ideas of how to have a good time, this is one area that may make everyone happy. Here are some of the highlights of a trip to the central coast.
- Go Camping on the Beach. There are any number of camping spots on or near the beaches on the central coast of California, and there’s no way to designate which one is the best. But if you’re looking for a lot of activity during your stay, the popular Pismo Beach might be your best bet. Pismo is a great spot for hiking, fishing, and surfing, and they have some excellent nature trails to explore. Also, you won’t want to leave the Pismo beach area without trying your hand at clamming for the famous Pismo clams.
- Visit a Winery. There are a number of excellent wineries in the area. You can cruise around and find the ones that look interesting to you on your own, or you can stop in popular locations like Cayucos Cellars or Talley Vineyards. If those are too tame and you’re looking for a more exciting wine tasting adventure, then what you’re looking for is Margarita Adventures. Located in Santa Margarita, this ranch and winery offers a unique wine tasting tour. First, you’ll spend some time exploring the Santa Margarita Ranch. However, don’t expect to be doing it on foot: The tour consists of five ziplines, for a total of over 4,500 feet of ziplining. This includes the ranch’s 1800 foot Pinot Noir Express zipline. After that, you’ll be able to taste the wine produced there and buy a bottle or two to bring home.
- See Hearst Castle. No doubt you’ve heard of William Randolph Hearst, and his enormous estate in California. When you’re visiting the central coast of California, you’ll have the chance to see it for yourself first hand. Located in San Simeon, Hearst Castle is one of the area’s most famous landmarks, and it’s open for tours. Visit the Grand Rooms or explore the cottages and kitchen; it’s up to you. During the spring and fall months, there are even night tours available.
While you’re in the area, you may also want to check out other notable attractions, like the lighthouse in Big Sur or the hot springs in Avila Beach. As you can see, a trip to California’s central coast offers no end of things to see and do.
