Lobster and the state of Maine go hand in hand. This state is famous for its crustaceans. It’s no wonder that people from all over New England come to Maine to celebrate the lobster festival. This much anticipated festival will start on July 29th and end on August 2nd.
What’s To Eat
Well obviously it’s no surprise that there will be a lot of lobster. However, there will be other things to eat like seafood of all varieties, sides like cole slaw and corn on the cob, and deserts like strawberry shortcake and blueberry cobbler. One of the best things about this festival is that the food is relatively cheap. You can get a meal that includes a main dish, side and dessert for $12.50. All of the lobster and seafood comes directly out of the Atlantic and it’s relatively fresh. The food’s so good that many people go to all 5 days of the event so that they can sample everything on the menu at the Main Eating Tent.
Activities
This will be the 68th year of the Maine Lobster Festival. Each year it seems to get a little bit bigger. There will be bands performing, an arts and crafts tent and a whole host of competitions, including the Lobster Crate Races. Basically lobster crates are connected together and placed in the harbor. Participants have to run across them without being toppled into the water. It’s pretty hilarious to watch! Another favorite is the beauty pageant where teenage girls compete for the titles of either Sea Princess or Sea Goddess. In addition to all of this there are quite a few carnival rides for visitors to enjoy. Ride bands can be used for unlimited rides on either Thursday or Friday from noon- 6 p.m. or noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and cost $15 each. All in all, this festival has quite a few things to do.
The Big Parade
One of the most popular events of the festival is “The Big Parade”. Anyone can participate in it for free and it usually draw’s a very large crowds. It’s always considered to be one of Maine’s longest parades. Most of the floats have a central theme: lobsters.
