National parks allow you to experience adventure and the wilderness around us. There are plenty of National Parks tours to choose from, including some that focus on small groups and travelers in the 18 to 35 year old, but if you are going on your own, in order to make your time at a national park more enjoyable, there are a variety of apps that you can download onto your smartphone. The following apps can prove to be very beneficial during your visit to one of the many national parks.
Passport to Your National Parks
This is a great app to use if you need a little bit of encouragement to get to some of the national parks. What it does is allow you to collect stamps in a virtual passport book by visiting one of the park’s cancellation stations. You can also view park maps from the app and even upload photos that you took.
Just Ahead
You don’t even need to utilize a tour guide at a national park, thanks to this app. Just Ahead has built-in GPS, and as you walk or drive by some of the sights in the park, the app will narrate what it is that you are seeing. You can also learn about some of the facts or history of a park with this app.
REI Co-op Guide to National Parks
If you are a hiker, then you will love this app. You can find hike descriptions and information on trails at specific parks. One of the nice features is that if you are at a national park and looking for a trail to hike, you don’t need cell phone service to find one. You can search for different hikes based on criteria like their difficulty levels.
Chimani
If you just aren’t sure which national park to go to or what to do while there, you will find this app to be very beneficial. You can find detailed guides for each of the national parks that you can download and use offline. The app will also provide you with recommendations as to some things to do based on some of your interests.
Pocket Ranger National Park
This app allows you to feel as if you have a park ranger right in your pocket. You can enjoy GPS features to figure out where you are at, look through trail maps and share your GPS coordinates with others. You can also see some of the events that are occurring at the national park that you are at, as well as any park advisories.
