The skies are blue, the air is crisp, yet comfortable and the trees are painted with gold and crimson leaves. New York in October is a delight. There’s a lot of activity going on everywhere. Now is the time to enjoy many of the stupendous events while taking advantage of the pleasant weather.
The Rink At Rockefeller
The Rink at Rockefeller is set to open on October 11th. It will be open every day from 8:30 a.m. until midnight through the month of April. Tickets range in price from $15-$30 and skate rental is $12.
Metropolitan Opera
The Metropolitan Opera opened on September 23rd. The month of October tends to be busy as the excitement of this much anticipated opera season is still buzzing and there are a lot of great shows taking place. Some of these performances include Le Nozze di Figro, Lady Macbeth and La Boheme.
New York Comic Con
Comic lovers will unite at New York’s Comic Con which is set to take place October 9-12th at the Javits Center. This is the biggest comic convention on the east coast. It will feature not only comics, but anime, movies, toys and video games. There will also be autograph session with some of the comic creators.
Central Park
You have to spend some time in Central park to enjoy the crisp air and vibrant colors of fall. The picture above shows that the signs of fall showing.
Halloween Events
Halloween is a particularly fun time in New York. There are many different events that are taking place this month. It’s impossible to include them all, but we’ve included some of the more popular ones:
Halloween Harvest at Luna Park
This event is taking place every weekend through October 26th. It will feature many events including a scavenger hunt, rides and plenty of candy. There will also be an enormous pumpkin on hand where kids can try to guess how much it weighs and those who are closest to that weight will win a prize of $500. Halloween Harvest at Luna Park is suitable for all ages.
The Ghosts of Greenwich Village Family Scavenger Hunt
Kids and adult alike will journey through Greenwich Village during this spooky, yet fun scavenger hunt. They will go through cemeteries and creepy buildings. This event will be taking place on October 18th starting at 4 p.m. and on October 25th at 3 p.m. The Ghosts of Greenwich Village Family Scavenger Hunt is suitable for ages 7 and up.
Brooklyn Bridge Park Harvest Festival
The Brooklyn Bridge Park Harvest Festival will be taking place on October 25th from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Kids can have their face painted, make a mask, pick pumpkins or go for a ride with their parents on an old-time trolley. At 11:45 a.m. there will also be a costume parade.
The New York City Marathon
The New York City Marathon does not kick-off until November 2nd. However, the festivities that surround the event actually start in October. The TCS New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo will run October 30th- November 1st. It will feature many tools and tips for staying healthy. This event is open to the public. The opening ceremony for the marathon will be at Central Park on October 31st from 5:25 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be the Parade of Nations and fireworks.
