Los Angeles, otherwise known as The City of Angels, has a reputation as an exciting and busy place to visit. Los Angeles is the second most highly populated city in the U.S., and is known to be one of the most diverse and culturally significant cities in the country. It goes without saying that there is no shortage of things for a visitor to see and do in this fascinating city. Some are obvious; you know you want to see Hollywood, for example. But you probably don’t have unlimited time, so how do you go about choosing the less well-known sites that you want to see the most? Here are few must-see suggestions for you for your next trip to L.A..
- The La Brea Tar Pits. OK, so it doesn’t smell like roses. But science buffs will be fascinated will be fascinated by the bones and plant fossils that have been excavated from the tar pits. Visit the George C. Page Museum of La Brea Discoveries, located next door to the tar pits themselves, to see the bones from nearly 60 species of animals and over 130 species of birds, as well as fossils from plant, mollusk and insect species.
- The J. Paul Getty Museum. This stellar art and history museum is dedicated to exhibiting high-quality and historically important works of art. Here you can see antiquities, sculptures, photographs, paintings, drawings, and even manuscripts. The Los Angeles location’s collections focus on European and American art, beginning in the middle ages and continuing to the present day. Adding to the experience is the dramatic architecture of the buildings, an art form in and of itself. The museum is easily accessible by public transport, and for those who are driving, parking is discounted after 5pm, so taking in the museum during its evening hours is a bargain.
- The Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Walt Disney Concert Hall houses both the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The hall is designed to feature some of the most sophisticated acoustics imaginable, and taking in a concert here is an incomparable experience. The visual experience is quite unique as well, as both the interior and exterior of the concert hall are fabulous examples of modern architecture. Formal dress is not required to attend a concert here; most concertgoers wear business or business casual attire. Children under six are not permitted for most events.
