Romantic Destinations: The Southwestern USA

1048

The southwestern United States is mysterious, full of history, and surprisingly full of romance. With Valentine’s Day on its way, you may be looking for a perfectly lovely place to whisk away your true love. If you are living in or visiting the Southwestern USA this winter, here are a few romantic destinations that you might consider:

  • San Antonio, Texas  The RiverWalk has made San Antonio famous for its romance. The atmosphere alone, replete with lush fauna and flora, is a beautiful tribute to the natural beauty of the area. There are romantic bridges and even an island, so you and your sweetie will be sure to find a few semi-private places to steal a kiss while out and about. There are many fine dining options on the RiverWalk. If you want to splurge, consider The Palm Restaurant, where you can enjoy succulent Nova Scotia lobsters or juicy prime rib. You can go for a romantic cruise on one of the river boats, where you’ll get a great view of San Antonio, then retire to your hotel for the evening. Consider the Brackenridge House, a romantic little bed and breakfast in the historic King William district, or perhaps the Drury Plaza Hotel RiverWalk, which is in a 24-story historic skyscraper.

  • Santa Fe, New Mexico  There is something about historical districts that is romantic and love-inspiring, isn’t there? The historic area around the Plaza in Sante Fe is no exception. It’s filled with boutiques, high-end historical hotels, and delicious dining options. All of Santa Fe is chock-full of fun, romantic things to do a deux, too. La Posada de Santa Fe might be overlooked, because its location is behind walls and trees, but this gem of a hotel is anything but a wallflower. Many of the rooms and suites have fireplaces and private patios, which are just right for snuggling. The Inn on the Alameda is at the start of the art district, and it features gorgeous gardens which are perfect for a romantic walk. You can’t go wrong at restaurants like Los Mayas or La Plazuela. You could also head to the Santa Fe’s Farmers’ Market to pick up cheese, bread and fresh fruit for a romantic and simple meal back at your hotel or in a nearby park.

  • Sedona, Arizona  Sedona offers breathtaking views as a romantic backdrop to anything that you may do there. The Adobe Grand Villas is a great place to stay; between the luxurious accommodations, the mouthwatering breakfasts and the incredible service, you may feel more pampered than ever before. L’Auberge de Sedona is another resort that is full of romance. You can sit outside by the water and just enjoy being with your special someone. When it comes time to leave the hotel and find something else to do, consider stargazing (Sedona’s dry climate makes it easy to see stars once you’re out of the city), taking a hot air balloon ride, or riding the train on the Verde River Canyon Scenic Railroad.

If you’re in the Southwest this Valentine’s Day weekend, you’ll have your pick of romantic destinations to choose from. If you know of other romantic places to spend a weekend away in the Southwestern USA, let our readers know in the comments section below.
