It’s often difficult to unwind and just slow down for a bit, but there are some places to go to that will make it a little easier to slow down and just relax. If you are ready to escape some of the busyness of your daily life, check out some of these places to go that make it easier to slow down and just enjoy yourself.
Chebeague Island, Maine
Located just off of the coast of Portland, this great little location has no traffic lights. You can spend your days golfing, going to the beach, or playing tennis. The area is primarily known for its lobsters and oysters. You can’t drive here as you will need to be transported to the island by a ferry boat.
Catalina Island, California
You can easily escape the congestion of California by heading to this island that’s only 22 miles off of Los Angeles’ coast. Once you arrive by boat, you can take part in things like zip lining, fly fishing, or a glass-bottom boat tour. A limited number of cars are allowed on the island at a time, but pretty much everyone gets around by golf carts, bikes, or walking from place to place.
Mount Airy, North Carolina
If you are looking for a mountain retreat, visit Mount Airy. It is located in the Blue Ridge foothills and features plenty of places to relax and enjoy some downtime. Make sure you check out the Siamese Twins Exhibit while here. The famous conjoined twins Eng and Chang lived in Mount Airy and you can find out a lot of information about them by visiting this exhibit. Also, the Andy Griffith Museum is worth checking out as the show was influenced by his daily life in Mount Airy. While here, make sure you allow yourself plenty of time just to stop and enjoy all of the beauty around you and breathe in the mountain air.
Bramwell, West Virginia
This historic town is tiny, but it’s the perfect place to enjoy a more laidback daily life. It was once a mining town but now consists of only about 400 people. Surprisingly enough, despite only being .6 square miles of area, there’s plenty to do! Stop off at the Corner Shop to enjoy ice cream or a drink from the old fashioned soda fountain. Another fun thing to do that brings in a lot of out-of-towners is the yearly Oktoberfest that features a lot of folk and bluegrass music.
