The event celebrates when Yukio Ozaki, the former mayor of Tokyo, gave the cherry blossom trees to Washington as a sign of friendship between Japan and the U.S. in 1912.
Guests will enjoy the Sakura Matsuri Japanese culture street fair on April 9 where they can view a number of performers, including a comedy routine by SeShami Street, dance group Yosakoi-Dance Project – 10tecomai, Japanese pop punk band Uzuhi and much more. Travelers also have the option of relaxing by the Tidal Basin and taking in the sights of the gorgeous cherry blossom trees.
Vacationers can visit the festival from March 26 through April 10. However, many experts predict that the cherry blossoms will be in peak bloom from March 29 through April 3, according to U.S.A. Today.
