Washington D.C. is home to some of the U.S.’ most famous landmarks and cultural facilities, including the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Supreme Court Building, the Holocaust Museum, the Smithsonian and much more. But travelers who are heading to the country’s capital on their North American vacation can also take part in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

The event celebrates when Yukio Ozaki, the former mayor of Tokyo, gave the cherry blossom trees to Washington as a sign of friendship between Japan and the U.S. in 1912.

Guests will enjoy the Sakura Matsuri Japanese culture street fair on April 9 where they can view a number of performers, including a comedy routine by SeShami Street, dance group Yosakoi-Dance Project – 10tecomai, Japanese pop punk band Uzuhi and much more. Travelers also have the option of relaxing by the Tidal Basin and taking in the sights of the gorgeous cherry blossom trees.

Vacationers can visit the festival from March 26 through April 10. However, many experts predict that the cherry blossoms will be in peak bloom from March 29 through April 3, according to U.S.A. Today.
