Independence Day, a/k/a the Fourth of July is tomorrow. Your own town might have a great fireworks display that you want to check out, or you may decide to go to a nearby city to see what they have to offer. If you are traveling during the first week of July, you might want to try to visit a city known for having an excellent celebration. Because the 4th falls on a Friday this year there will be a lot of fireworks displays and extra celebrations going on since it is right before the weekend. Here are some of the best 4th of July firework’s displays throughout the country:
New York City: In true New York City fashion, their firework’s displays are always huge. The most popular of these displays is the Macy’s fireworks show. It will be taking place at 9:00 p.m. on the 4th. The rockets are aimed over the Hudson River and are visible from various places in the City and in New Jersey. The fireworks usually last for about 30 minutes. If you want to get a seat on the West Side Highway, you’ll need to go in the early or mid-afternoon. West Side Highway and portions of FDR Drive will be closed starting at around 4 p.m. on July 4th.
Philadelphia: If you find yourself in America’s birthplace on the Fourth of July you will have the opportunity to enjoy many different events. On Friday at 11 a.m. there is a parade that will be taking place. It will start at 6th and Chestnut Streets. From noon until 5 p.m. there’s an all you can eat ice cream festival that’s taking place at Penn’s landing. This event costs $7 to get in and will be taking place through Sunday. The Benjamin Franklin Parkway is having a concert and fireworks on Friday. It starts at 7p.m. and goes until about 11 p.m. Since many streets will be closed on these days, it’s best to park somewhere away from the crowds and take public transportation into the city.
Washington, DC: Of course one of the most popular places to celebrate America’s birthday is in Washington D.C. Festivities will take place the whole day, starting with the Independence Day Parade at 11:45 a.m. beginning on Constitution Avenue and ending with fireworks over the National Mall at about 9:15 p.m. Some places to see the show include the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Capitol, the FDR Memorial or on one of the rooftop bars in the city. The best way to get to the National Mall is to ride on the Metro.
Addison, Texas: Addison is a suburb of Dallas and home to the famous Kaboom Town! This year is Addison’s 30th anniversary and they will be having a big celebration. They will be having their Fourth of July celebration on July 3rd. The fun starts at 5 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at 9:30 p.m. There will be inflatables, a rock climbing wall and sand art. Many hotels and restaurants will be hosting viewing parties, so if you are staying in the city, ask at the front desk whether your hotel is included.
Lake Tahoe, California: Lights on the Lake is considered to be one of the best firework’s displays in the entire country. Festivities start on July 3rd and some of the events that are taking place include parades, concerts, rubber ducky races, a veterans’ tribute, a community fair, an ice cream social and a wine and cheese party. The fireworks take place on Incline Beach at 9:45 pm and you can see them from Nevada Beach, Timber Cove Marina, El Dorado Beach or Bijou Community Park.
No matter where you go this 4th of July, remember to stay safe and have a good time with your loved ones. If you can’t make it out to watch the fireworks in person, you can always watch a great firework’s show on TV. Capital Fourth starts at 8 p.m. and will consist of musical performances and a fireworks display around 9 pm. It will air on PBS.
