LINQ Ferris Wheel – Tallest in the World Until 2016

The LINQ is considered to be the place to go when in Las Vegas. It’s filled with shopping, entertainment and exquisite dining opportunities. The area just got even more exciting. The LINQ ferris wheel officially opened to the public on March 31, 2014 and is the now the tallest ferris wheel in the world.

Design
The LINQ High Roller ferris wheel is 550 feet tall. It is 9 feet taller than the Singapore Flyer, which is the world’s second tallest Ferris. The High Roller is 520 feet wide and has 32 passenger cabins that can hold 40 people each. The overall weight of this massive ride is over a million pounds. To say that this ferris wheel is just one part of The LINQ is an understatement because it tends to actually be the centerpiece of the area

The Actual Ride
Riders will first board their passenger cabin and will be able to look out to see the sites of Vegas as the cabin is consists mainly of glass windows. At the top of the ride passengers will get a 360 degree view of Las Vegas. The entire ride on the LINQ ferris wheel lasts for 30 minutes. Sunset is a great time to go.

Cost and Availability
The High Roller is open from noon until 2 a.m. each day. Daytime tickets are $24.95 and nighttime tickets are $34.95. For those that plan to ride it more than once there’s a flex pass for one day for $44.95, a flex pass for 3 days for $54.95. Express passes are available for those that want to skip the line and cost $59.95.

Other Important Information

  • After purchasing tickets at the ticket window or kiosk, riders will have to have their bags checked before they scan their ticket and go up the escalators.
  • Before entering on the ride, riders will go through the High Roller Lounge where they can purchase a drink. They will then go up another set of escalators and upon exiting they will have the opportunity to have their pictures taken before they go into a waiting room.
  • The wait to get on the actual ride can be long depending on how many riders there are at that particular time. While in the waiting room riders can watch cartoons on wrap around TV screens.
  • Riders need to exercise caution when boarding the ride as the platform to get on and off isn’t that big. However, there is a safety net to catch riders who slip and fall.
  • Once on the ride, riders can either stand by one of the windows or take a seat on one of the benches

The High Roller is going to have some competition in the next couple of years. Another huge ferris wheel will be opening in 2016 in Staten Island. The New York Wheel is projected to be 625 feet tall and will open on July 4th, 2016.
