There is so much more to color than meets the eye. Colors, like words, are a strong and powerful communication tool that can be used for many purposes, from influencing someone’s moods and decisions to giving physiological reactions. Color, like music, has the power to change the essence of everything it touches. Color can set a mood, create a conversation, soothe, and ground us. Through color, we navigate our world, understand it more deeply, and lend it our own personal touch.
Will decorating my house or wearing specific colors help change my outcome for 2026? Maybe not, but there is nothing wrong with having a little fun & welcoming change.
This blog post shares New Year’s lucky colors as they pertain to New Year’s Eve in the U.S., and then we move to lucky colors for the Chinese New Year. We also share an overview of the psychology of colors and close out the post reviewing fashion, paint predictions and trends for 2026.

New Years Lucky Colors
Do you believe in the power of colors? Color resonates in distinct ways for different people. Many cultures believe the right colors can bring about luck, particularly how you start the New Year. Those who believe this often feel the colors you wear and surround you can attract or repel good fortune. This is why it’s said you should choose the colors around you very carefully this coming New Year. If you want to bring about some luck in your life (and who doesn’t!), choose some of these lucky colors when putting together your wardrobe for New Year’s Party & then incorporate these colors into your home and office decor for the new year as well. Choose your color based on what your goals are for the new year.
- Blue. Blue is generally a happy color, no matter what shade you choose. It represents open spaces like the ocean and the sky. If you are looking for inspiration, imagination, wisdom, tranquility, good health or just are optimistic about the future, wear shades of the color blue. Blue can also help with balance and self-expression.
- Silver. Silver is said to connect with wealth, technology, high tech & intelligence. It represents hope, unconditional love, and meditation. Wearing silver jewelry is believed to draw negative energy out of the body and replace it with positive energy. Wearing silver clothes or using it for your New Years’ décor will reflect energy, open new doors, and light the way to the future.
- Green. Green is associated with nature, life, and renewal. This color is thought to bring about luck when it comes to areas of healing, health, and growth. Being the color of money, it is also traditionally associated with boosting your finances. Green is a color that also helps alleviate anxiety, depression, and nervousness. Let’s not forget that green is the national color of Ireland and is associated with good luck, four-leaf clovers, and leprechauns.
- Orange. This color denotes feelings of liveliness, warmth, stimulation, motivation, adventure, and happiness. It can help the wearer with enhanced confidence and decision-making. Orange can also help a person recover from disappointments or a wounded heart.
- Fuchsia Pink. A delicate color, pink represents friendship, approachability, emotional stability, and inner peace. Is your social life in need of a little bit of luck this coming year? Wear pink to encourage intimacy, affection, and love.
- Purple. This is one royal color, literally. Since early on, purple has been the color of choice among royalty. It is also symbolic of magic, mystery and spirituality. Wearing it can bring about luck in areas of wisdom, passion, peace, independence, and creativity. Wearing purple can also be uplifting, encourage imagination, and create feelings of spirituality. It’s also a great choice for those who are looking for professional success.
- Red. The color of fire, red is associated with heat, love, desire, passion, courage, willpower, anger, and stress. This color is an excellent choice for those looking for love & passion. It can also bring about luck in areas associated with work and those who are looking for positions of power.
- White. White represents simplicity, freshness, spirituality, protection, a blank slate or a new beginning. Wearing white could promote feelings of renewal, encourage purification of thoughts and actions, and help clear negative thoughts and obstacles that have been holding you back. In some countries, such as Brazil, they believe that wearing white will bring about good luck and peace throughout the New Year.
- Yellow. Yellow is associated with sunshine, happiness, warmth, and cheerfulness. Wearing this vibrant color can bring about luck for those who are dealing with financial troubles. It can lift the wearer’s spirits and provide them with a clear head and a cheerful mood.
- Gold. Gold symbolizes wealth, but don’t always think of it as financial. You can also gain a wealth of experience, a wealth of knowledge, or a wealth of love and support from friends and family. Gold gemstones are believed to increase personal wisdom and power, create success and prosperity, and illuminate the path toward your goal.
Lucky underwear? Yes, in many Latin American countries, they believe the color of your underwear on New Year’s Eve can set the tone for the New Year.
To add a playful twist for 2026, why not match your choice to the vibrant energy of the Year of the Horse? Opt for red for passion, purple for ambition, or green for renewal—colors tied to this year’s Chinese zodiac—to invite a spirited start.
Must-Wear Colors: Feng Shui
Gold, Red & Emerald Green: These are your powerhouse colors for 2026, perfectly aligned with the fiery spirit of the Year of the Horse. Red ignites passion and joy, resonating with Lunar New Year celebrations and boosting your drive. Gold draws in wealth and prestige, symbolizing abundance in all forms. Emerald Green fosters stability and growth, grounding your ambitions with renewal. Wear these colors together or as statement pieces to tap into the year’s most dynamic energies, whether at a New Year’s Eve bash or a Lunar New Year gathering.
Blue & White: This duo offers clarity and connection for 2026. Blue, a universally calming shade, sharpens focus and attracts supportive allies, ideal for navigating new challenges. White, echoing Pantone’s Cloud Dancer, delivers mental purity and protective vibes, a fitting choice for a fresh start. Slip into these colors for key moments like job interviews, social events, or reflective planning sessions to harness a balanced mindset this year.
Pink & Purple: These shades enhance relationships and personal influence in 2026. Purple, tied to the Year of the Horse’s lucky hues, boosts ambition and spiritual depth, empowering your presence. Pink nurtures bonds and invites harmonious connections, softening life’s edges. Incorporate these into your style, think purple blazers or pink accessories, to strengthen your social and romantic spheres with a touch of charm.

Colors to Avoid
Brown & Dark Green: While Emerald Green shines bright this year, heavier earth tones like brown and darker greens may weigh down the Horse’s lively momentum, fostering stagnation. Use them sparingly, perhaps as minor accents, to avoid dulling your 2026 energy.
Black: Representing the Water element, black can clash with the dominant Fire energy of the Horse year, potentially dimming your vitality. If black is unavoidable, offset it with vibrant lucky colors like red, gold, or emerald green through bold accessories to keep the spark alive.
Lucky Colors 2026 – Chinese New Year of the Horse
As 2026 nears, it’s the perfect moment to gear up for what lies ahead and aim to thrive! Chinese New Year in 2026 will begin on Tuesday, February 17, ushering in the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese zodiac. This vibrant celebration spans 15 days, culminating in the dazzling Lantern Festival on March 3, 2026, a night of glowing displays and family unity. Rooted in an ancient lunisolar calendar, this festival aligns with the new moon that heralds spring’s first whispers, blending solar and lunar cycles to time cultural and seasonal milestones.
The Year of the Horse brings a surge of energy, symbolizing freedom, strength, and an untamed spirit. Those born under this sign are often seen as energetic, independent, and charismatic, with traits like optimism, quick wit, and a love for adventure defining their nature. For 2026, fortune favors signs compatible with the Horse, Tiger, Dog, and Goat—promising an especially auspicious year for those born in these zodiac years due to shared dynamic energies.
Lucky Numbers for the Horse are 2, 3, and 7, ideal for decision-making or planning.
Lucky Flowers include calla lily, jasmine, and marigold, perfect for decor or gifting to invite positivity.
Lucky Directions to face for prosperity are East, West, and Southwest. Consider orienting your workspace or home entry accordingly.
Inspired by Feng Shui and Lunar New Year traditions, the auspicious colors for 2026 resonate with the Horse’s fiery essence, promising to enhance luck and harmony:
- Red: A cornerstone of Lunar New Year, red embodies joy, vitality, and celebration. It fuels the Horse’s passionate nature, warding off negativity and amplifying festive energy—perfect for clothing or bold home accents during the 15-day celebration.
- Purple: Symbolizing ambition, wealth, and royalty, purple aligns with the Horse’s drive for success. It’s a powerful shade for those chasing career goals or personal growth in 2026, ideal for elegant attire or sophisticated decor touches.
- Green: Representing renewal, growth, and balance, green connects to the Horse’s free-spirited quest for new horizons. It invites fresh opportunities and health—try green accessories or living plants to ground your space with natural luck.
Year of the Horse Element & Traditions
In Chinese zodiac lore, the Horse is tied to the fixed element of Fire, embodying passion, transformation, and boundless energy. For 2026, the Horse year aligns with the Fire element, doubling down on intensity, warmth, and a zest for action. This fiery influence encourages bold moves and spirited pursuits, mirroring the Horse’s untamed heart. To honor this, embrace Lunar New Year customs that spark connection and renewal: host family reunions with symbolic feasts (think dumplings for wealth, fish for abundance), adorn your home with red lanterns or couplets for joy, and give red envelopes (hongbao) to share blessings. Avoid taboos like sweeping on the first day, don’t sweep away good luck, and steer clear of negative words to preserve harmony.
To channel the Horse’s vibrant energy and Fire element into your 2026 journey, try these practices: Embrace Movement: Reflect the Horse’s active spirit with dynamic activities like jogging, dancing, or even horseback riding, ideally facing the lucky East or West directions to align with positive flows. Revitalize Your Space: Infuse your home with Horse-inspired vigor using red candles or artwork for passion, green foliage for growth, and warm lighting to echo Fire’s glow. Focus on decluttering to welcome new beginnings, a key theme of the Lunar New Year. Connect with Nature: Spend time outdoors in wide-open spaces to resonate with the Horse’s love of freedom. Hikes or park strolls facing East can recharge your spirit for the year ahead. Bold Personal Style: Wear flowing or striking outfits in lucky colors like red or purple, paired with vibrant accessories (think green scarves or belts), to embody the Horse’s confident, adventurous flair during celebrations.
Year of the Horse Colors to Avoid
To stay in sync with the Horse’s lively energy in 2026, limit certain colors that could dampen its fiery momentum. Stark white may cool the Horse’s warmth, risking a loss of drive. Opt for soft creams or off-whites (like Cloud Dancer tones) instead for balance. Deep blue, tied to Water, can conflict with Fire’s dominance, so swap it for warmer teals or aquas. Heavy black might stifle the year’s brightness; choose charcoal or pair it with lucky reds to offset its weight. Be mindful of these when choosing outfits for Lunar New Year events, decorating for the 15-day festival, or setting up key spaces like offices or entryways. Aligning with the Horse’s spirited vibe through thoughtful color choices can amplify your luck and flow throughout 2026.
Psychology of Color
Outside of what lucky colors to wear for New Year’s, did you know some psychologists study color and how it impacts your behavior, from the foods you eat to your mood? Colors can significantly affect how we feel and behave, and many people have been using them, from interior designers to digital marketers, to produce certain desired effects for brands. Colors are thought to influence our buying choices, feelings, and memories. Warm colors can evoke different emotions than cool ones, and bright colors can create different feelings than muted ones. Men and women tend to have different color preferences, and color associations vary from culture to culture and from person to person. Scientific studies and research are constantly being done to better understand color psychology, as the concept has become extremely popular in marketing, art, design, fashion, and other areas that seek to connect colors and emotions.
Lucky Colors 2026: Home Decor & Fashion
Colors are a driving force in fashion and decor trends, shaping how we express ourselves and design our surroundings. As we look toward 2026, emerging styles reveal a captivating blend of daring, energetic tones inspired by the Year of the Horse’s fiery spirit and serene, minimalist shades reflecting Pantone’s groundbreaking Color of the Year, Cloud Dancer. Runway previews for Spring 2026 hint at a powerful contrast, think bold reds and spirited oranges to fuel passion and optimism, alongside lush greens and regal purples for growth and ambition, echoing Lunar New Year’s lucky hues. These vibrant choices are tempered by soft whites and creamy neutrals, offering a calming foundation for personal renewal. Jewel tones such as deep ruby or amethyst bring a touch of luxury, while playful pastels like buttery yellow or tender pink inject a sense of whimsy. This dynamic palette is already spilling into home decor, inspiring environments that pair lively accents—red throw pillows, green ceramic vases—with tranquil bases like white walls or ivory bedding.
To navigate Cloud Dancer’s influence in your 2026 fashion choices, balance its serene austerity with the Horse year’s lively energy. Opt for white as a foundational piece, a sleek tank or tailored coat for New Year’s Eve or Lunar New Year events, pairing it with bold red scarves or green jewelry to infuse passion and growth. In home decor, let white anchor your space as a symbol of renewal with airy curtains or minimalist table settings, but warm it up with purple cushions or fiery artwork to avoid a cold, sterile vibe. While white dominates formal and runway trends, its cultural weight—tied to purity or even mourning in some traditions—invites personal interpretation. Use it thoughtfully to craft a look or space that feels both polished and uniquely yours, sidestepping its challenges by mixing with Lunar New Year’s vibrant lucky colors for a harmonious start to 2026.
Pantone 2026 Color of the Year is…
Pantone, the global color authority, has unveiled its Color of the Year for 2026: Cloud Dancer (PANTONE 11-4201), a subtle, airy white that radiates peace and the promise of a clean slate. In a historic move—the first time a white shade has earned this title—Pantone positions Cloud Dancer as a serene refuge in our chaotic times, encouraging quiet introspection and boundless creativity as we step into the New Year. Linked to the ‘quiet luxury’ trend of refined simplicity, this hue will shape 2026’s aesthetic across fashion, tech, and home goods, from sleek gadgets to minimalist apparel. Public response spans from praise for its elegant restraint to critique over its perceived lack of boldness or cultural timing, yet it undeniably offers a fresh lens on luck and renewal. Weave Cloud Dancer into your world with crisp white outfits for New Year’s Eve or Lunar New Year gatherings, or create calming havens at home with soft white linens, curtains, or tableware to embody its tranquil, forward-looking spirit.
Behr Paint Color of the Year 2026….Rumors
Behr Paint Company has officially announced its Color of the Year for 2026: Hidden Gem (N430-6A), a captivating smoky jade that merges deep green with cool blue undertones, delivering a balance of grounding calm and subtle vibrancy to any space. Unveiled on July 30, 2025, this jewel-like shade is celebrated for its timeless elegance and modern flair, described by Behr as a color that unearths beauty with an air of mystery and sophistication. As part of Behr’s 2026 Color Trends Palette—featuring warm earth tones, deep jewel shades, and soft pastels—Hidden Gem signals a shift toward comfort and playful reinvention. For 2026, let this shade bring luck and depth to your spaces by painting an accent wall in a dining nook for a serene yet sophisticated vibe, or refresh outdoor furniture with this lush green to echo the Year of the Horse’s natural, adventurous energy. Pair it with Lunar New Year greens for added renewal or Cloud Dancer whites for contrast, crafting a home that feels both soulful and uniquely expressive of your story.
Sherwin-Williams Color Trends for 2026: Universal Khaki
Sherwin-Williams has unveiled its Color of the Year for 2026: Universal Khaki (SW 6150, 207-C3), a timeless mid-tone neutral tan with warm, earthy undertones, signaling a return to fundamental simplicity and grounded elegance. Announced as part of their 2026 Colormix® Forecast (Anthology: Volume Two) and anchoring HGTV Home’s Honest Essentials collection, this versatile khaki embodies the emerging “essentialism” design movement valuing purpose and quality over excess while blending historical resonance with modern appeal. With origins tracing back to 19th-century military uniforms (from the Persian word for “dust”), khaki evolved into everyday fashion by the 20th century, symbolizing durability, comfort, and sustainability. Sherwin-Williams’ experts, including Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing, highlight its ability to bridge past and future, offering understated sophistication that resonates globally, from Latin America’s nature-inspired authenticity to Europe’s industrial-minimalist wave.
Universal Khaki’s restorative warmth suits both residential and commercial spaces—think cozy living rooms, modern offices, or wellness havens—as a backdrop on walls, cabinets, or flooring, and extends to industrial applications like metal roofing, furniture, and appliances. It shines in pairings, whether with maximalist textures and bold shades like deep auburn for drama, or soft creams and crisp whites for serene balance, complementing a palette of nature-inspired tones for 2026. Designers envision it with raw materials (concrete, metal) softened by tactile elements (wood, linen), or mixed metals (bronze, gold) for depth, ideal for creating intentional, lasting designs. For your 2026 home, invite luck and stability by using Universal Khaki on a feature wall in a study for a grounded, focused vibe, or on kitchen cabinetry paired with Lunar New Year greens or reds to blend earthy calm with festive energy. This hue’s universal charm offers a canvas to craft spaces that feel authentic and enduring, aligning with the Year of the Horse’s adventurous yet purposeful spirit.
Benjamin Moore Color Trends & Color of the Year 2026
Benjamin Moore has announced its Color of the Year for 2026: Silhouette AF-655, a striking deep brownish-gray infused with espresso and charcoal tones, embodying refined elegance and timeless drama for modern interiors. Unveiled as the centerpiece of the Color Trends 2026 palette, this sophisticated hue draws inspiration from classic tailoring and suiting in fashion, blending the worlds of couture and home design with a rich, grounded neutral that shifts away from overly bright shades toward warmer, complex depth. Described as a luxurious fusion of burnt umber and subtle gray, Silhouette captures a moody yet inviting warmth, aligning with a growing preference for earth-toned palettes that evoke nature and coziness, as noted by Benjamin Moore’s color experts. It stands as a testament to bespoke craftsmanship, offering a tailored aesthetic for spaces meant to feel both dramatic and intimately personal.
Silhouette’s versatility makes it ideal as a bold statement or subtle backdrop, shining in cozy nooks like living rooms, dining areas, studies, or bedrooms, where its enveloping depth can transform the ambiance. Perfect for accent walls or full-room applications, it pairs beautifully with natural textures such as wood, marble, or linen, and harmonizes with the 2026 Color Trends Palette, a curated mix of deep midtones and ethereal pales including warm whites, soft blushes, clay-browns, and timeless gray-greens. This palette reflects a return to classic detail and layered intention, allowing Silhouette to stand alone or blend for sophisticated contrast. For your 2026 home, channel luck and grounding energy by painting a dining room wall with Silhouette to create an intimate, elegant setting for Lunar New Year feasts, or use it in a home office paired with Year of the Horse-inspired greens or reds for a balanced mix of focus and vitality. This hue’s fashion-forward depth offers a canvas for spaces that resonate with enduring style, inviting a renewed sense of purpose as you design for the year ahead.
