There isn’t a huge list like there is for the holidays, but there are some movie options to stream that could help you get in the Easter/Spring mood. Whether you’re in the mood for a funny cartoon or a more serious, religious picture, there are plenty of options to stream.
- HOP (2011 on Netflix) – Beneath Easter Island, in a giant factory that manufactures the world’s Easter candy, the popular rabbit is preparing to pass the mantle to his son, E.B. (Russell Brand). But E.B. has no interest in the job and would rather be a drummer. He runs away to Los Angeles, where an unemployed slacker named Fred O’Hare (James Marsden) accidentally runs into him. Feigning injury, E.B. tricks Fred into giving him shelter, but an oversized chick is planning a coup back on Easter Island.
- Peter Rabbit (2018 version – Amazon $3.99) Peter Rabbit and family wreak havoc in hopes to win back the Manor House of Old McGregor and the affections of their neighbor, Bea.
- Easter Parade (Judy Garland & Fred Astair 1948 – $2.99 Amazon) Fred Astair stars as a rising Broadway star who tries to break away from former dance partner Ann Miller so he can be with newcomer Judy Garland.
- Risen ($3.99 Amazon) The epic Biblical story of the Resurrection as told through the eyes of a non-believer, starring Joseph Fiennes and Cliff Curtis.
- It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown (Apple TV+) It’s springtime, Charlie Brown! Change is in the air and the gang is making preparations, each in their own way. Peppermint Patty attempts to teach Marcie how to dye eggs, Snoopy helps Woodstock build a new house and Linus awaits the Easter Beagle, who will take care of everything.
- Come Sunday (2018) (Netflix) – A crisis of faith sets renowned fundamentalist preacher Carlton Perason on a new spiritual path that jeopardizes everything he holds dear, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Martin Sheen, Danny Glover
- The Gospel of Luke (2015-Netflix)Word-for-word Bible texts of the entire book of Luke are narrated and re-enacted in this epic production of the Gospel’s accounts of Jesus’s life. You can also watch the gospel of Matthew, Mark & John on Netflix.
- The Dog Who Saved Easter (Amazon $3.99)Easter is approaching and the Bannisters are going on a family cruise. But when their dog, Zeus can’t go, Belinda makes the difficult decision to have him stay at Alice’s dog care facility where Zeus quickly meets new friends. When a competitor hires a criminal to sabotage Alice’s operation and force her out of business, Zeus and his new friends save the day
- I Can Only Imagine (2018) (Amazon $3.99) Based on a true story, this inspiring film explores one man’s journey to find peace and forgiveness as the lead singer of the Christian band, MercyMe.
- Hank & Mike (2008) (Amazon $3.99) Two professional Easter Bunnies find themselves unemployed when the company that owns all holidays makes cutbacks.
- The Passion Of Christ (2004) (Free for Amazon Prime members) Directed by Mel Gibson, starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus. This biblical drama takes place on the day of Jese of Nazareth’s crucifixion in Jerusalem.
- Steel Magnolias (1989) (Amazon – $3.99) An amazing cast and a tear-jerker so make sure and have a box of tissues nearby. Although it’s not a traditional Easter movie it does end with an Easter Hunt.
- Joseph King of Dreams (2000) (Netflix) This animated take on the Biblical tale of Joseph has it all: a parable for the ages, impressive voice acting (courtesy Ben Affleck, Mark Hamill, and Judith Light), and sing-along-worthy music.
- The Easter Bunny is Comin’ to Town (2016) (Amazon $2.99) The Easter Bunny is Comin’ to Town is a Rankin and Bass holiday classic (originally produced in 1977) featuring stop motion animation and narrated by the legendary Fred Astaire. The feature is a fun, playful, retro 50-minute Easter story with an uplifting message that teaches kids about the origins of Easter traditions such as Easter Egg Hunts, Egg Rolling Contests and Easter Bonnets.
