Jungle Cruise Themed Restaurant Coming Soon “The Skipper Canteen”

It seems that the Disney theme parks have been going through renovations for quite a while now. In addition to the new rides that have slowly been completed, there’s a new restaurant as well. The Skipper Canteen will be offering park goers an interesting experience that is themed after one of their favorite rides.

The Theme

The Skipper Canteen is going to be themed after the popular Jungle Cruise attraction. This restaurant is rumored to be similar to the Be Our Guest restaurant and will offer table service for dinner and counter service for lunch. Disney hasn’t revealed a lot of details yet, but supposedly the restaurant will have a few dining rooms include a meeting room of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers as well as a crew mess hall. The menu is supposed to have a corny feel and the staff will have plenty of eye rolling jokes to offer its guests.

Idea Behind The Restaurant

One theory as to why Disney is adding the Skipper Canteen to its ever-growing eateries in some of its theme parks is because fans were displeased with the removal of the old Adventurer’s Club that was once located in Pleasure Island. Of course the Skipper Canteen won’t be the exact same restaurant, but it’s supposed to have a similar, lighthearted feel. There will be a lot of memorabilia from the Jungle Cruise attraction thrown in as well.

About The Jungle Cruise

The Jungle Cruise is one of the most beloved attractions at the Disney theme parks. It first opened in 1955 and is one of the oldest rides in Disneyland. It opened in the Magic Kingdom in 1971. The attraction simulates a ride in a riverboat that goes down some of the major rivers in South America, Africa and Asia. On the attraction riders view audio-animatronic animals and have a guide on board the vessel that provides narration in a humorous way. Despite there being a script, most of the guides ad-lib as much as possible to add more fun and authenticity to the ride. The Jungle Cruise ride is about 7 minute long.

This new restaurant is expected to open at the end of 2015. In addition to the Skipper Canteen, Disney just announced that they plan on adding Star Wars themed lands to both their Florida and California parks. These new lands will include 14-acre attractions which will be Disney’s largest single themed expansion to ever occur.
