Summer Festivals in Oahu

Summer Moments

Kid friendly fun never ceases on Oahu. BayFest Hawaii July 15 to 17 was launched 20 years ago to say thank you to the military for their service. Today, BayFest still fills that role and offers three days with carnival rides, GreenFest Expo, Coconut Island Boat Rides, children’s contest stand up paddleboard events, and live entertainment from Cecilio and Kapano, Hoobastank with Puddle of Mud and Joe Nichols.

The annual Duke’s OceanFest August 24 to 28 celebrates Hawaii’s Father of Surfing Duke Kahanamoku. Locals and visitors can watch or take part in longboard surfing, surf polo, swimming, stand up paddle, tandem surfing, and paddle boarding. OceanFest starts with a service at Duke’s statue on Waikiki Beach and ends in the same spot with a lei draping ceremony. Funds raised benefit the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation college scholarship and athletic grants program.

Shoppers will find island inspired gifts and mementoes at the Made in Hawaii Festival August 19 to 21. Food, books, gifts, home furnishings, jewelry, toy, fashions, plant, art, crafts, and produce will be for sale. Live entertainment and cooking demonstrations are all part of the festival.

Perhaps the most exciting news in Hawaii is the end of summer opening of the Aulani Disney Hotel.

Aloha, welcome to Hawai`i:  Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, was designed by Walt Disney Imagineers working hand in hand with Hawaiians to create a place celebrating island culture and history. Everything from the wondrous volcanic outcroppings to the breathtaking Resort architecture honors the fundamental connection between nature and humanity that the Hawaiians have cherished since the beginning of time. And because Hawaiians love to layer meaning in their words, so the name “Aulani” has more than one meaning. It is the place that speaks for the ancestors, yet it is also the place that speaks with deep messages.

Aulani is indeed a place where ancestral stories are told, built with the nobility, beauty and grandeur of Paradise.
