Best Places Cities to Celebrate New Year’s Eve

The New Year brings in a lot of fun and an excuse to let your hair down and go to a huge party. Don’t stay home on New Year’s Eve, get out and celebrate. Around the world there are a lot of festive places to be at on December 31st when the clock strikes midnight.

Rio De Janeiro

New Year’s Eve in Rio De Janeiro might be the wildest party in the world. Over two million people are in attendance each year. If you want to blend in with the locals, dress in white as it’s believed to bring you some good luck. During this event attendees throw flowers into the ocean and dance wildly to dance and musical performances. A huge fireworks display occurs at midnight.

Sydney

If you have always dreamed of being in one of the first places where the clock strikes midnight, head to Sydney. It has the largest fireworks celebration in the world with one taking place at 9 p.m. and the other one occurring at midnight. In addition to the fireworks there’s an air and water show that includes aerial acrobatics. There’s also a flotilla of over 50 illuminated boats in the Harbour of Light Parade. One of the most sacred events that takes places is the Aboriginal smoking ceremony that cleanses bad spirits. Over one million people attend the New Year’s Eve celebrations that take place in Sydney each year.

New York City

This is one of the most well-known New Year’s celebrations in the world. More than a million people visit here each year to take part in all of excitement in Times Square. There are a variety of musicians that perform and a 12,000-pound crystal ball that drops as midnight rolls around. For those that want to celebrate, but don’t necessarily want to be in the middle of this mass amount of people, there’s as exquisite fireworks display that takes place on Liberty Island.

Hong Kong

One of the things that makes this celebration so interesting is the skyline that is illuminated with a rather impressive firework display. This includes the finale of a pyrotechnic dragon. The festivities actually start with the dropping of a ball that’s a replica to the one found in New York City. The rest of the activities occur at Victoria Harbour.

Vienna

The highlight of the New Year’s Eve events in Vienna is the Grand Ball that takes place at Hofburg Palace. The markets that Vienna is famous for transform into fairs as well. The festivities start at 2 p.m. and end after midnight with a firework show. The celebration isn’t over though as thousands gather outside of Rathus on New Year’s Day to watch the Philharmonic’s annual concert on a large screen.
