As summer is wrapping up and we welcome fall, now is a good time to spend some time at a festival. During the month of September there are quite a few festivities occurring throughout the world. Good music, food and a lot of fun seem to be the central theme for our top festival picks during the months of September.
Festival No. 6- September 3-6, Wales “A Bespoke Banquet Of Music, Arts & Culture”
If you are looking for a festival that’s geared just towards adults then Festival No. 6 in Wales may be exactly what you are looking for. The majority of the festivities take place in Porteiron. The city makes an interesting backdrop with all of the brightly colored buildings situated there. The festival will feature a variety of performers this year including Bonobo and Beck.
Scottish Highland Games- September 6, 12, 19, United Kingdom
What could be more fun than watching a bunch of men in kilts competing in hardcore games? At the Scottish Highland Games participants will show their strength as they compete in tree trunk tossing contests, tug of wars and pretty much any competition that involves them showing off how strong they are. In addition to the games that make up this day long festival there are also several dance competitions and plenty of food to go around. If you are lucky enough to attend The Braemar Gathering (September 6th) you might get a chance to see the English Royal Family as they are in attendance pretty much every year. September 12th are the Pitlochry Highland Games and September 19th are the Invercharron Highland Games
Regata Storica- September 6, Venice, Italy
The Regata Storica in Venice is a highly anticipated festival that revolves around a series of rowing races that are taking place during this one day event. It begins with a parade that features boats that have been all decked out in 16th century decorations as well as a crew that looks as if they are from the past themselves. The most anticipated event is the gondolina regatta which is basically a gondola race that consists of dozens of competitors. It is amazing to see so many gondolas at one time.
Oktoberfest Germany– September 19– Oct 4, Germany
Before Germany’s streets are filled with their beautiful Christmas markets it’s time to celebrate the end of summer with their annual Oktoberfest. This 16 day long festival is marked by good food and a lot of beer. Many festival goers dress up in their lederhosen as they watch some of the more traditional dances and festivities that take place. If you’re ready for a good time sit back with your German beer, weisswurst and sauerkraut and watch all the many different festivities. With approximately 6 million people attending this event each year, there’s plenty of activities going on.
Festes de la Merce – Barcelona, Spain September 23-17
Barcelona’s biggest annual festival that celebrates the city’s patron saint, Virgin de la Merce. Over 500 activities including parades and fireworks.
