South Florida’s favorite waterfront music and art festival will be taking place from April 27 to May 1. Over 175,000 people are expected to be in attendance this year thanks to the cool drinks and big acts taking the stage. Here’s what you need to know about the event that’s been taking place for 34 years.
The Music
There are quite a few performers taking the stage this year. They include Meghan Trainor, Duran Duran, Alabama Shakes, Rick Springfield, Fitz and the Tantrums and ZZ Top. There will be three stages with bands playing simultaneously. What that this means is that you won’t be able to see every act. It’s best to plan ahead to decide who you really want to see and how to get to that stage. SunFest can be crowded, especially around the time a popular music performer is playing.
The Art
Over 140 different artists will be on hand with a variety of items to sell. These items include jewelry, ceramics, paintings and sculptures. Many of them have a nautical theme which is perfect since the event will be held on the water.
For The Kids
Kids can even get in on the SunFest fun. The area called the Youth Park is located near the south-side stage and features a DJ, booths, rock climbing wall and many activities geared just towards the kids.
The Food And Alcohol
There is plenty of food and alcohol available to purchase at SunFest. Favorites include alligator bites, conch fritters, coconut shrimp, barbeque and jerk chicken. An abundance of fried food is available at every turn and it’s the perfect opportunity to throw caution to the wind and forget about that diet for a night or two. Looking to get a drink? Three floating barges have enough liquor to keep any partygoer content. Many of them have a tropical theme and contain rum. If you are more low key, you can also find plenty of beer at SunFest as well.
On the final night of SunFest attendees can watch the elaborate fireworks show that lights up the intercostal. The more days you attend SunFest the more you will save. A one-day ticket for adults costs $40, a two day ticket costs $60 and a five day ticket costs $80 if purchased online before the first day of the event. Tickets purchased at the gate will cost an additional $5 or $10 so it’s worth it to get them early.
