Football has become synonymous with Thanksgiving. Professional football has been played on Thanksgiving since 1920. In many households it’s one of their favorite parts of turkey day. We’ve included not only information about the upcoming big games, but some interesting facts about Thanksgiving football so that you can prepare for all of the upcoming action.

Interesting Facts
-Until 2006 Thanksgiving Day games were only played in Dallas and Detroit. Since 2006, games have been played at variety of different cities and evening games have been added as well.
-Two teams have never played in a Thanksgiving Day game: the Jaguars and the Panthers.
-With the exception of 1941-1944, when no football games were played because of WWII, the Detroit Lions have played in every Thanksgiving Day game. Coincidentally they have the most wins and losses on Thanksgiving Day.
– Since 1966 the Cowboys have played in every Thanksgiving Day game and have the second most wins.
– Cincinnati and Tampa Bay have never won a Thanksgiving Day game.

Thursday:

Bears and Lions at 12:30 p.m. on CBS
This is the appetizer of sorts of the big Thanksgiving weekend games. The Bears and the Lions will be duking it out in a match that will keep your head spinning. Each team has one of the best offenses in the league. It’s sure to be a matchup that you don’t want to miss.

Eagles and Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. on FOX
Make sure you finish Thanksgiving dinner early so that you can watch this big game. It’s an old dog versus a young pup type of matchup. Nick Foles and Tony Romo will be battling it out on the field as they try to outwit the other’s offensive strategies.

Seahawks and 49ers at 8:30 p.m. on NBC
After all the pie has been eaten it’s time for this long awaited for game. Last January these two teams gave a thrilling performance during the NFC Championship game. The Seahawks will no doubt be bringing their “A” game as they try to avenge their devastating loss the last time these two teams met.

If this isn’t enough football for you there will be 11 different football games to watch on Sunday. For those of you who are football fans like us, you will probably be one of the millions of Americans watching one of these games.
